❄️In the Arctic, environmental monitoring is not only about data: it is about understanding fragile ecosystems, observing change where it is happening fastest, and supporting research that helps protect the balance between climate, environment and life.
🐺These beautiful images show an Arctic fox near one of our LSI LASTEM - Environmental Monitoring Solutions stations for the measurement of meteorological parameters at the CNR Dirigibile Italia Arctic Station used by researchers of the CNR IGG Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse in their research about CO2 fluxes from the Arctic tundra.
🏨Located in Ny-Ålesund, on Spitsbergen Island in the Svalbard archipelago, Dirigibile Italia is the Arctic multidisciplinary CNR research station supporting national and international scientific projects all year round — a key outpost for polar research and environmental observation.
🐾Working with the environment often means being reminded, in the most unexpected and moving ways, of why this work matters. Sometimes, the instruments measure the atmosphere. Sometimes, nature itself comes close enough to tell the story.
A heartfelt thank you to researcher Mariasilvia Giamberini for these beautiful and touching shots.
