We are stoked to kick-off the new year with yet another tech-talk about fins, organized by one of the emerging local surfboard builders from Sardinia, .

During the talk, hosted by and sponsored by , we will discuss why fins are important, how they work and what are their main characteristics and design features.

Thanks to the CFD Technology we have made available to , which is now used to develop the most advanced models such as the Vector 32 which will be on display during the talk, we will not only show but also quantify how much difference the size, foil and template of a fin can make when you surf.

Many other Futures fins models, such as the Legacy and Blackstix series and the John John Florence small wave template in the ultra-light V***r Core construction, will be available during the talk to see and touch what it will be shown on screen.

The new year marks the 10th anniversary of RED.

If we look back at these ten years, it is almost hard to believe what we have achieved and at the beginning of it, we would have never guessed what the journey of bringing our CFD expertise to the surfing world would have brought on the way.

A journey born by contacting Sequoia Surfboards in 2016, the first brand believing in the CFD technology, with which we keep collaborating today. We then flew to California, and signed a contract to work with Firewire Surfboards and Slater Designs to analyze with CFD simulations some of their iconic models from legendary shapers like Daniele “Tomo” Thomson of Tom Surfboards and Dan Mann.

Thanks to the collaboration with Firewire, we had the chance to meet Vince Longo, founder of Futures Fins, and started a partnership to analyze and support the design of their fins using our CFD technology, which is now part of Futures technological backbone.

Even Dakine Surf noticed our work, and asked us to test a new leash design featuring dimples to lower the drag in the water.

We have been featured in some of the most iconic surf magazines, like Stab Magazine and The Inertia, and offsiders like Damp Magazine, as well in some of the newborn surf websites like Wavepool Magazine, Surf Simply and Sons of the Ocean.

We delivered talks about the use of CFD for boards and fins designs to educate surfers about their gear and how much hydrodynamics can impact their surf, from the iconic Boardroom.Show, which takes place every year at Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, to the Italia Surf Expo, taking place in the sea in front of the eternal city of Rome.

We met legends like Rob Machado and Jordy Smith, and even sat down with the GOAT, Kelly Slater, showing him the results from the simulation of the Sci-Fi model he surfed at Cloudbreak and iconically portrayed by the underwater shots of Todd Glaser.

It is hard to express how stoked we are for all this and how grateful to all the people, brands and companies in the industry, from the smallest to the largest, that believed in us.

Swipe left to see all of them and follow us to see with us what the next ten years will bring.

Big congrats to for presenting successfully his final report entitled "Development of meshing strategies and CFD simulations on surfboards fins" at ENSEIRB-MATMECA.

Always happy and proud to give a talented and passionate young student the chance to join our team for an internship, and even more so when he shares with us the passion for surfing.

It was a real pleasure to have Matty in the team and work on surfboards fins hydrodynamics together in the office and in the water.
