✨ What an incredible week in Tazarine!
I’m truly proud to have participated in the organization of this workshop in the southeastern of Morocco. Tazarine is a perfect example of a city with an extraordinary heritage that deserves much more attention. I’m happy to have contributed to building a bridge between structural knowledge and heritage architecture, and to have shown participants the importance of working together.
This was not only about theoretical lessons, but above all about field experimentation. Four intense days of activities and visits gave participants the chance to learn, exchange, and directly engage with historic buildings and the traditional techniques used to build and keep this heritage alive.
We worked in two groups: one dedicated to the urban mapping of the old medina of Tazarine, led by and another more focused on the structural assessment of traditional buildings, which I led together with Hector Esteban, expert in earthen construction and rehabilitation. My group in particular concentrated on the assessment of the Kasbah of Ait Ouassine, only one of the many outstanding buildings in the area. Despite the limited time, participants did an excellent job and prepared a solid presentation on assessment and intervention proposals to make the building livable again. And this is exactly what these structures need.
We also had the chance to follow a fascinating path through the city with Mr. Hassan Ouaddi, true master of water in Tazarine, who guided us along the traditional canals and explained the ancient system of barriers that open and close with precision to distribute water, who I sincerely thank.
A special thanks goes to for coordinating much of the organization, to .ouallal for the incredible support with local logistics and the amazing knowledge of the local traditions and history, to GDF for funding part of the workshop, and to all the local associations and parteners that supported and welcomed us in an outstanding way.
This is just the first step. We hope this can raise awareness both in the local community and among professionals across the country.
