JKMEGA welcomes HUDD Reorganisation 🇮🇳

The Jammu & Kashmir Mechanical Engineers Graduates Association (JKMEGA) expresses sincere gratitude to the Govt. of J&K for issuing Govt. Order No. 29-HUD of 2026 (dated 05-02-2026), reorganising the Housing & Urban Development Department.

JKMEGA thanks Hon’ble CM Jenab Omar Abdullah Sahab, Advisor Jenab Nasir Aslam Wani Sahab, Chief Secretary Shri Atul Dulloo, and Commissioner Secretary HUDD Ms. Mandeep Kaur (IAS) for this timely, visionary step to strengthen engineering manpower and rationalise cadres.

The move will greatly support urban planning, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth. JKMEGA also stresses the need for similar strengthening of Mechanical Engineering cadres in other departments, including Jal Shakti.
The proper and immediate timely utilisation and expansion of Mechanical Engineering across all the service sector department in J&K is unavoidable said Er Firdous Ahad Bhat ,President JKMEGA in a statement.

Despite repeated representations through memorandums, meetings, and formal submissions, it is respectfully reiterated that the Mechanical Engineering wing in Jammu & Kashmir remains significantly under-utilised across key public service departments. At present, departments such as PWD (R&B), Jal Shakti, and Housing & Urban Development have, on average, only one Mechanical Division catering to four or five districts, which is grossly inadequate.

This structural deficiency is already impacting efficient service delivery and is likely to severely affect future public works, particularly in view of the growing reliance on mechanised systems, modern infrastructure development, water supply schemes, urban services, and maintenance of heavy machinery. The absence of adequate Mechanical Engineering support undermines operational efficiency, timely ex*****on, and long-term sustainability of public assets.

In light of the increasing demand for mechanised intervention and technical expertise, there is an urgent need to strengthen and rationalise the Mechanical Engineering setup across all concerned departments to ensure effective public service delivery.

We, therefore, most respectfully request the Honourable Chief Minister and the Worthy Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir to kindly take an urgent and comprehensive review of the matter and issue necessary directions for its early review where in all stakeholders may be given chance to present view for better public welfare please

We applaud the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of the engineering fraternity and field staff for sustaining essential services during the recent extreme weather across Jammu & Kashmir.
The Association congratulates all engineers honored during the Republic Day ceremonies and expresses sincere gratitude to the Administration for the recognition.

Despite severe winds and heavy, widespread snowfall, the Mechanical Wing of the Mechanical & Hospital Engineering Department responded with commendable promptness, ensuring timely clearance of Priority-I and Priority-II roads in the most affected districts.

JKMEGA urges citizens, public representatives, and the media to extend cooperation and patience during such emergencies, acknowledging that restoration in harsh terrain and limited resources takes time—after all, every machine is operated by human effort.

While advocating transparent accountability where negligence is proven, JKMEGA firmly stands for the dignity, respect, and morale of engineers and field teams serving the public under extreme situations without any compromise
