ARAI signs MoU with Data Security Council of India (DSCI)!

We are pleased to announce a strategic partnership between ARAI and DSCI, India's leading organization promoting data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity, to shape the future of cybersecurity in the automotive ecosystem.

The MoU was exchanged between Dr. Reji Mathai, Director – ARAI, and Shri. Vinayak Godse, CEO, DSCI- in presence of Shri. Vijay Pankhawala, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI, Shri. Anand Deshpande, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI & Smt. Ujjwala Karale, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI and other senior officials from both organizations.

Empowering Horizons: Women Leaders Explore ARAI's Innovation Frontier

A select group of accomplished women officers from Cummins India Limited embarked on a transformative journey at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) on 13th April 2026. Under the visionary “Empowering Her” initiative, championed by Director Shri Abhijeet Phadake, these professionals stepped into the heart of advanced automotive research, igniting their potential in technical leadership.

The day commenced with Dr. S. S. Thipse, Senior Deputy Director, ARAI, extending a formal welcome and illuminating ARAI’s legacy in research, engine development, testing, and environmental innovation. Mrs. Medha Jambhale, Senior Deputy Director, then delivered a compelling address on the evolving role of women in core engineering and industrial leadership, inspiring reflections on resilience and opportunity.

Immersive tours of the Engine Development Laboratory (EDL) and Environmental Research Laboratory (ERL) unveiled state-of-the-art facilities, offering firsthand encounters with cutting-edge engine validation and sustainability research. For these women officers, it was more than a visit—it was a catalyst for professional empowerment.

ARAI successfully organized a significant one-day workshop on Bharat VECTO simulation tool development on 7th April 2026.

As the Project Nodal Agency, ARAI convened key stakeholders from the Indian Commercial Vehicle (CV) industry, experts from the JRC – European Commission (Dr. Fontaras and Dr. Evangelos), and an international representative from Volvo Trucks, Sweden (Dr. Jan Melin) to review progress and align on next steps.

The event was honoured by the presence of Mr. K. C. Sharma (Chief Engineer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India), Mr. P. K. Banerjee (SIAM India), Mr. Anirudha Kulkarni (Tata Motors), and Mr. D. Balakrishnan (Ashok Leyland) as Guests of Honour.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Reji Mathai, Director – ARAI, along with the dignitaries, through traditional lamp lighting.
The technical sessions included presentations on VECTO component test methodologies, India-specific mission profiles, a live demonstration of the VECTO tool, and OEM alignment approaches for Bharat VECTO, complemented by insights into EU VECTO implementation.

The workshop facilitated constructive technical dialogue and knowledge exchange, contributing meaningfully to the roadmap for effective Bharat VECTO implementation in India.

Each year, the ARAI Sports Committee organizes various events to foster teamspirit, collaboration, and camaraderie among our valued employees. As part of ARAI’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the much-awaited tournament - ARAI Premier League commenced this week, at our Kothrud and Chakan premises.

A total of 24 teams, each comprising 15 players, are competing across League and Super League stages for the Championship and Runner-Up titles.

A notable feature of this edition is the active participation of our Senior and Women employees, highlighting inclusiveness, shared enthusiasm, and strong team spirit.

𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗜’𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗼𝗳-𝘁𝗵𝗲-𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗕𝗠𝗦 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 — 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The Battery Management System (BMS) space is evolving fast, and robust validation early in development is becoming essential. To support this, ARAI’s Advanced Battery Test Centre is now equipped with a state-of-the-art BMS testing system built to push validation boundaries right from the development stage.

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀:

• Power-level cell simulation up to 108 cells (up to 7V, 2A per cell)
• High-accuracy test reproducibility using FPGA-based real-time interfaces
• Integrated fault insertion enabling easy, safe, and repeatable unit-cell level fault testing

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀:

• Functional validation of BMS behaviour across operating conditions
• Testing of protection features (fault scenarios, limits, interlocks)
• Communication verification (e.g. CAN-based monitoring)
• Automated sequences with structured logging and reporting
• Configurable architecture to match different pack/BMS platforms

As a snapshot from one of the performed tests, the graph shows systematic error percentage in voltage measurement, and it helped identify above-average voltage measurement error for Cell 1, enabling the team to catch it in the initial stages of development itself.

With this robust testing framework, suppliers and OEMs can gain data-driven insights into hardware performance, driving time and cost savings in the long run.
