Quick question for anyone on a hospital or diagnostic centre procurement team: when you signed your last equipment maintenance contract, did you check whether parts were included?
It's an easy detail to skip, and it's the one that decides how much a breakdown actually costs you.
Most facilities choose between two types of contract. An AMC, or Annual Maintenance Contract, covers preventive maintenance and periodic checkups. It's the lower-priced option, but it doesn't include parts, and repair requests get standard priority. If a probe or board fails, you're paying for the part separately and waiting in the regular queue.
A CMC, or Comprehensive Maintenance Contract, costs a bit more, but it covers preventive maintenance plus breakdown repairs, parts included, with priority response. That's the difference between a same-day fix and a machine sitting idle for days while a part gets sourced.
Here's the short version:
β’ Coverage: AMC handles preventive care only. CMC adds breakdown repairs with parts.
β’ Response: AMC is standard priority. CMC is priority response.
β’ Downtime risk: Medium for AMC, low for CMC.
β’ Price tier: Low for AMC, medium for CMC.
Neither option is automatically "right." A smaller diagnostic centre with older, lower-risk equipment might be fine on an AMC. A busy hospital running critical imaging or diagnostic machines around the clock usually can't afford the downtime risk that comes with it.
At KPI Healthcare India, we walk procurement teams through this decision equipment by equipment, not as a blanket policy. That means looking at usage hours, criticality, and repair history before recommending a contract type, so you're not overpaying for coverage you don't need or underinsuring equipment you can't afford to lose.
If your AMC or CMC is up for renewal, or you're setting one up for new equipment, we'll walk through it with you at no cost.
