We are pleased to share the completion of the RCC structural framework for a Brachytherapy Treatment Room, including associated control consoles and allied service areas.
A key structural and safety feature of this facility is the 500 mm thick RCC shielding walls, designed in line with AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) guidelines for proposed brachytherapy installations. The facility is intended for use with Iridium-192 (Ir-192), a widely adopted isotope for high-dose-rate brachytherapy applications as referenced in the public domain.
To meet radiation shielding and durability requirements, M30 grade Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) has been used, with high-density concrete exceeding 2.4 g/cc, ensuring enhanced gamma radiation attenuation while maintaining structural performance and long-term serviceability.
Structural Design Basis:
• RCC shielding walls: 500 mm thickness
• Concrete grade: M30, high-density (> 2.4 g/cc)
• Radiation shielding considerations as per AERB-referenced layouts
• Seismic and structural safety as per Indian Standards
Codes Adopted:
• IS 456:2000 – Plain and Reinforced Concrete
• IS 1893 (Part 1):2016 – Earthquake Resistant Design of Structures
Brachytherapy facilities demand precise integration of radiation protection requirements and structural engineering, where material selection, detailing, and ex*****on quality play a critical role in regulatory compliance and operational safety.
We remain committed to delivering safe, compliant, and purpose-driven structural solutions for healthcare and critical infrastructure projects.
