2. Civil/Structural :

a. Civil/Structural/Architectural design and detail drawings of tower, gantries, equipment structures and foundations, Control room/DG/fire fighting pump house/Security/Store/Staff Quarter buildings, fire water reservoir, transformer foundation-cum-oil collection pit, common oil pit, oil-water separator pit, outdoor/indoor cable trenches, switchyard roads & drainage system, switchyard fence & gate. Civil/structural design calculations are made using STAAD software. Preparation of structural GA drawings for switchyard gantry/beam/equipment support structures.

3. Tender evaluations, recommendations to client and providing assistance to client for procurement of various electrical equipment and works for the above mentioned type of projects.

4. Vendor drawing review and approvals/coordination with vendors for equipment finalizations.

5. Detail engineering: Modifications/finalization of preliminary engineering/drawings with respect to actual equipment supplied.

6. Inspection & testing of electrical equipment at manufacturer’s works. The design and engineering work will be executed in line with client’s standards and specifications, national/international codes & standards like IS/ANSI/IEC/NEC/NFPA etc. as required.

Electrical balance of plant of a thermal power plant is the electrical part of the works of the power plant except the main boiler, turbine and generator package. It covers the electrical system of the EHV Switchyard, coal handing or fuel handling plant, Ash handling plant, Cooling water system, hydrogen generation plant, lub oil plants, fire fighting pump house, Emergency power generators and other parts power plant. All these portions of the power plant receives power at medium voltage like 11kV and then stepped down to 415V for utilisation in different drives, motors, lighting and air conditioning systems. Detail Project Report of EHV Transmission system

After conclusion of the Feasibility study report of the Transmission project, the next step is to be prepare a detail project report of the electrical Transmission system to further describe the system by including the following aspects :
1. Introduction.
2. System description.
3. Executive summary of the project.
4. The benefits of the Transmission project.
5. Detail description of the scope and equipment materials required.
6. Description of various alternatives such as alternative route of the Transmission lines, alternative location of the EHV substations.

Power receiving and distribution to Load block substations in Large steel plants :

In large steel plants power is generally received at 220kV Switchyard or GIS Substation. It is stepped down to 33kV by step down transformers of approx. capacity of 100MVA. The 33kV Switchgear is normally air insulated or gas insulated type and has many outgoing feeders to load block substations at different load centers of the steel plant. The 33kV cables in the outgoing feeders are laid on cable trays in underground cable tunnels. The load block substations (LBSS) steps down 33kV to utilisation voltage of 6.6kV or 415V through transformers rated 20MVA or so. LT transformers are not rated above 2.5MVA. The entire power receiving and distribution system is controlled by a computerised data feedback and remote control system and it is essential to improve the power factor at the 220kV incomer.

High voltage Switchyard Design and Engineering:

High voltage Switchyards are required for the following purposes :

1. To receive power at high voltage for various industries and then step down to lower voltages for distribution within the plant.
2. To receive power at high voltage by one or two incoming line feeders and then distribute to several locations or downstream substations at the same voltage. This type of of substation is called switching stations.
3. To receive power supply at lower voltages and then step up to high voltage for supplying power to grid substation. This type of substation is required for power generating plants.

The equipment and connections, bus bars are designed with respect to rated current flow through the feeders and bus bar. The short circuit current and duration also plays an important role in deciding the equipment and connection sizes.

The clearances (phase to phase, phase to earth, sectional clearances, ground clearances are decided as per CEA guideline or national or international standards.

In EHV outdoor Switchyards, to create sufficient ground clearance and phase to earth clearance, the live conductor heights from ground needs to be increased with the help of steel structures. Gantry Towers and beams are lattice type structures and equipment support structures are either lattice type or pipe type structures. These structures are designed as per Indian standard (IS) 800 or 802 by using staad pro software.

Satcon has very rich expertise of more than two decades in Steel structures designs for EHV substations for utilities and renewable energy projects. Such designs are delivered for overseas projects as well. For overseas projects, the designs are done as per relevant Eurocode or ASCE standard.

In a Substation, Control & Relay panels are considered as the heart of the system. The Control and Relay panels can be separate panels or can be combined. The control panels, if sepatrated from the Relay panels, provide the control switches, alarm, annunciation, indication, interlocking and metering of the bay equipment either local manually or remote manually. Nowadays, a Bay control unit (BCU) is mounted on the control panel to monitor the entire operation of the bay and management from the control panel itself or from SCADA room HMI.

The Relay panels house the numerical protection relays of the bay along with auxiliary relays, contact multiplications, lock out relays, trip circuit supervision, lock out relay supervision, DC closing and tripping supply supervision etc. The Relay panel also interfaces with the Control panel for required interlocks and permissives.

Prebid Engineering services :

It is a type of engineering which is involved during preparation of a tender proposal for an industrial or utility project. In the public tenders, normally a price schedule blank format is provided by the Purchaser which needs to be filled up by the bidder to arrive at the lumpsum price. There are some items which are generally indicated in ‘lot’. One of the main purpose of the prebid engineering is to estimate the quantity of these LOT items and also to identify and quantify any missing items in the price schedule. This exercise gives the bidder a better control over the price he has quoted for the project.

A renewable energy project consists of solar power generation or wind power generation and or storage of generated power in Battery storage systems. design of Multi circuit transmission tower :

Quad circuit transmission towers are used in several transmission circuits in many parts of the world. Four nos. 3 phase circuits (12 conductors) are drawn on a single tower. It has some distinct benefits over double circuit towers. It occupies much less right of way space, it carries much more power than other type of towers, requirement of steel, civil and electrical materials are much less and easier to manage by the transmission agency. Disadvantage is that it cannot be used in voltage higher than 132kV.

Satcon, over the years, has developed capability to design these type of towers. The design and analysis is done by staad pro connect software and drawings are prepared by Revit software. 3D and 2D both type of drawings can be submitted. It is also possible to submit fabrication drawings and shop drawings of this type of towers..
