CIHT is established by Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (M/o MSME) as a National level technology centre at Jalandhar, Punjab 1983 as autonomous organization, to promote research, training, and innovation collaborating training with industry. MSME Tool Room (Central Institute of Hand Tools) Jalandhar was established in 1983 with assistance from UNDP, Government of India (Ministry of M

SME) and Government of Punjab with a aim is to provide technology support services and trained manpower to engineering industry in general and the hand tools industries in particular to achieve global standards. CIHT is providing common facility services to MSMEs in the Design & Development of Tooling, Heat Treatment of Tooling for Hand Tools, Forging of Hand Tools and other products, Chemical Testing, Physical testing of materials, Calibration of Measuring Instruments and Inspection of Hand Tools. CIHT is conducting 4 Years Diploma in Mechanical Engg.(Tool & Die) Approved by AICTE and 3 Years Diploma in Computer Science & Engineering Approved by AICTE. CIHT is conducting various types of short term courses in CAD/CAM, Tool Room/CNC, Electrical/ Electronics/ Computer/ Mechanical, skill development courses AND Industrial training for Engg. MSME TOOL ROOM is equipped with modern facilities for the manufacturing of tools and for imparting training in the area of Tool and Die making. The production facilities include machines of international standards like Computerized Numerical controlled Milling machine, CNC Wire Cut Machine, CNC Turning centre, Grinding machines etc. The Tool Room is also equipped with Heat Treatment facilities like Induction Heaters, Gas Carburizing furnace & Forging facilities like Belt Drop hammers and Forging Press and Inspection facilities like height gauge, Hardness Tester, C.M.M. is equipped with Spectrometer and Metallurgical Micro-scope. The training Department is equipped with high quality Trainers (Milling & Lathe) and machines like Milling, Lathe, Surface, Cylindrical Grinding, EDM as well as CAD/CAM Labs with latest work station and CAD/CAM software.
