Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj Ji Accompanied by family and his beloved Khalsa warriors left Keshgarh fort on 21 Dec on the bitter cold and rainy night after a prolonged siege by the Mughal and Hindu hill chieftains' armies. The Mughals and Hindu chieftains had offered Guru Sahib a safe passage to leave Anandpur Sahib on an oath sworn on the Quran that had been signed by emperor Aurangzeb and an oath on the cow (which Hindus consider as sacred) by the hill chieftains. However, their oaths were meaningless as they betrayed Guru Sahib.
ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਯੋਧਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮੁਗਲ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਫੌਜਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲੰਮੀ ਘੇਰਾਬੰਦੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 21 ਦਸੰਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਕੜਾਕੇ ਦੀ ਠੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਬਰਸਾਤ ਵਾਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਕੇਸਗੜ੍ਹ ਕਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਮੁਗਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਸਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਤੇ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹਸਤਾਖਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਹੁੰ ਅਤੇ ਪਹਾੜੀ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਗਊ (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਮੰਨਦੇ ਹਨ) ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ 'ਤੇ ਅਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਛੱਡਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਹੁੰਆਂ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸਘਾਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ
