Today's Post is about Fiat Engine Overhauled

Fiat in recent times has got a very poor record of after-sales servicing. Earlier few service personnel were willing to do the servicing enthusiastically. Though a hatchback, the vehicle is a typical European car which is very complicated. If a problem arises in these cars then a proper diagnosis is the key to the car to get into functioning normally.

We got one such customer who had made changes in his Fiat

He had done changes on its engine, cylinder head and gasket. We do not know the reasons behind the changes but when we received the vehicle it was in a bad state. As per experts, this could be because the customer could have changed the Engine Oil.

Many European cars ask for synthetic or semi-synthetic Engine oils in the vehicles as it is in a lower W category. Only Some vehicles especially Indian diesel vehicles can tolerate higher weight engine oil. The engine oils should have a specific W number needed for good operation, stability and decent performance.

Fiats are a good sturdy car that has good safety, performance, stability, and durability. The problem arises when the engine has already been worked upon without a proper understanding of the work done. The symptoms of trouble have to be systematically looked into. Like if we are getting constant white smoke or crude oil burning smell, then we need to look into the cause of the smoke instead of just doing a temporary job.

We would have to redo the entire process of service again to ascertain the exact problem right from checking the basics even though the engine may have new or refurbished parts making it almost as good as a new engine.

We inspected the vehicle from the basics like checking the electrical wherein the wires have been fixed again and the electronics which control the mechanical systems. If the vehicle has electrical issues, it will have idling, may run rough. A simple wiring issue can lead to engine repairs if not attended to at the right time.

This can also be caused due to not using the engine oil which is recommended for the vehicle. We suggested putting the manufacturer spec. engine oils to be put in the vehicle as it guarantees the longevity of the vehicle.

So, the bottom line for any service is to understand the issues faced by the vehicle and treat the symptoms systematically rather than going for a temporary measure as they ensure better longevity to your vehicles. Also, the service has to be done as specified by the manufacturer intervals as it can give less trouble in the long run. Too short, you are just wasting money on good parts, too long they will breakdown in the middle of the road.

CARB Destroying California trucker Out of business

CARB or California`s Air Resources Board with their new laws are forcing the truck drivers and owners to shut their businesses. The Board with the tough new laws makes it difficult for truck drivers to register their vehicles thereby rendering their vehicles redundancies. This unelected board has saddled trucking companies with costly regulations that not only raise the cost of transportation but also force trucking companies out of business or out of state.

CARB came out with regulations that required any independent contractor to get a CARB emissions certificate to be able to subcontract with logging companies or brokerages.

The truckers who have trucks which are pre-1980`s couldn’t register their vehicles as their VIN numbers or Vehicle Identification numbers were returning invalid as these vehicles had a 6-digit VIN number and as per CARB they required a 14-digit VIN Number. It didn’t matter if the DMV issued licences and motor licensing companies giving permits to ply on the road.

The rules laid down were changed often and the onus of learning about the changed rules was on the drivers and owners by rummaging through their website which was often difficult to manoeuvre. There was often never any written notice about the changed rules.

These often led to truckers being forced to shut down their trucking business or move elsewhere to set up their businesses afresh. These truckers often move from being owners of their companies to working for other companies as truck drivers or doing odd jobs to earn their livelihoods.

The regulations on old diesel vehicles though looking like a mandatory step as they emit serious toxic gases and particulates which have been known to bring in various health problems. These regulations have to bring in consultations with not just environmental groups but also with the truck drivers owners’ associations and the motor vehicle departments.

Also, that the regulations are supposed to be brought about in a phased manner which can help the truckers to ease into the regulations thereby reducing their losses and help them cope with the learning, understanding and implementation of the new regulations.

Today's Post is about Bolero ZLX Service

A Bolero ZLX, with the new diesel engine, came with 2 major faults. Firstly, it had low pickup and secondly, idling was rough and smoky compared to normal. A few people suggested that since it will cost a lot of money to do only some small service to get it running which is not a piece of very sound advice.

But we at Sri Bhagavathi Cars Pvt Ltd would suggest to leave the vehicle alone for some time, save money and buy a new vehicle later as the temporary services will do more harm than good in the long term. Diesel car service by itself will cost more as the diesel technology like the filters, engine oils or fuel injectors are costly as the components in the vehicle have critical wear and tear. People who like to save on maintenance cost, diesel vehicles are not an option for them.

Mahindra vehicles are known to be very customer friendly vehicles. Mahindra vehicles are vehicles made for Indian financial conditions keeping in mind the millions of middle-class people. These are long term rough and tough vehicles for all kinds of terrain.

These vehicles need proper lubrication in each and every service like oil filters and engine oils. The service schedules if followed as advised then the vehicle will not have major issues and you will have a long-lasting car in your hand. Also, if there is a breakdown, don’t force the vehicle to run as forcing can cause further damage. T

What we are all about?

Sri Bhagavathy Cars is a purely service-oriented company. We do not do over the counter sales for spare parts or consulting. We do sales only in the event of necessary changes or specific needs in the vehicle directly to the customer who gets it fitted from us. We only connect the customer to the people who sell the parts.

We do service mainly with refurbished and quality OE products from recognized OE suppliers. We only deal with star rated spare parts suppliers as they would have better

Why we are distinct from others?
Guarantee-Warranty policy as they have a direct link to OE manufacturers. How the counter sale happens in a dealership is similar to how it happens with us for OE spare parts. We would use the sticker price only for the OE parts.
We do not do used cars sales.

Some people sell used cars and then there are people are willing to sell the cars as scraps. We recommend only a single owner used cars. By used cars, we mean a car which has been used by the owner very sparingly. If a customer wants us to look at specific cars, we still recommend only these kinds of
cars

If you go through a dealership for used cars, they ideally only solve major issues, if any, of the vehicle and ignore any small issues that the car may be facing. We take care of those issues too as we deal with only quality OE products as they have a warranty. But it is slightly time-consuming as they have to go back to the company and then be replaced.

There have been several instances when the parts have turned out faulty and have had to go through the process of replacement quite a few times. It`s in these instances when we have found engineering issues. Some major cars have undergone such recurring engineering issues.

Today's Post is about Original Equipment (OE

Original Equipment (OE) is the first quality of equipment by manufacturers and suppliers that have very rare manufacturing defects or have a lower risk of failures due to rigorous R & D for recurring faults.

But there is a lobby of so-called better than OE quality suppliers who sell the goods with three different pricing, one without warranty, one without MRP Sticker and one without the box itself. There are scores of people who get fleeced by this lobby and end up buying this.

OE market is still in demand as they pass Quality Control or QC and can go through a high level of tolerance. An OE Equivalent product will have an almost similar performance when it is fitted well in the vehicle unless you are expecting 105% performance and 200% peak performance, especially when climbing a hill road.

A lot of people give opinions on different aspects of the vehicle people who solve vehicle issues are even lesser. It is best to stick to original diagnostics. There are people who don’t think through enough about the type of vehicle they want to possess, a diesel or a petrol one. Driving a diesel vehicle for a short distance through the city will not serve the purpose of owning a diesel vehicle.

During servicing if the Fuel Injector needs service then it is too expensive for a Diesel vehicle than for a petrol vehicle. It costs almost 15-20% less than for diesel fuel injector. The diesel fuel injector undergoes frequent malfunctions causing smoke which causes greenhouse gases. By the time when a diesel vehicle comes for service, the engine oil would be almost gone as opposed to a petrol vehicle which still retains almost usable quality.

There is no higher quality than an OE unless we are structurally changing the vehicle which requires permissions or Approvals from the relevant Government Authorities. Some modifications are OE approved. If a vehicle is upgraded it has to be used for the purpose for which it has been upgraded. Modifying it again defeats the whole purpose of the modifications.

We should not go blindly into automobile modification as most vehicles don’t need it adding to the cost factor. In a few cases, there is a necessity to make the modifications. In others what is standard should be more than sufficient for the already depreciating vehicle. There is no point in upgrading for the sake for doing so which only burns a hole in the pocket which brings in minimal difference.

It is ok to buy OE equivalent as long as we check the quality. Just because a product is more expensive than the original does not make it a better product. We at Sri Bhagavathy cars and services have original parts or can source it on orders too if unavailable at the time of bringing your vehicle. As a service technician, we would always recommend that you buy original parts and that you always insist on original parts. But if a customer decides to not buy original owing to maybe costs parts then be aware of the quality of the product.

Awareness is the key to buying OE or cheap substitutes when buying for your beloved vehicle. So, do not be fleeced by those claiming to give you better than OE products. The longevity of your vehicle depends on your choices. So, choose wisely.

Any automobile which has been given a makeover when breaks down due to a mechanical contraption, it is best to say goodbye to your beloved vehicle than sending for repairs as they cause you a deep hole in your pocket repairing them. You rather part with the vehicle then try to do works on them

Replacing or fixing a vehicle with parts that are not designed to take the wear and tear will only make the matters worse. Introduction to Skoda

Skoda one of the oldest car companies in the world, set up in the late 1800s, enjoyed considerable repute in the first half of the 1900s. However, its fortunes turned after the Second World War, when it first came under N**i control and was later nationalized by the Czechoslovakian government. By the 1980s, Skoda cars had lost track of the technological advancements in the West and were widely derided for their poor quality and unreliability.

In 1991, Volkswagen (VW) acquired a stake in Skoda. Following this, VW went about systematically transforming Skoda's image and establishing it as a reliable mass-market car brand. When VW took over Skoda, the two companies had little in common. VW was known the world over for the quality of its engineering.

VW's approach to transforming Skoda was gradual and incremental. The company used a collaborative and nurturing strategy in bringing about improvements at Skoda. From the beginning, VW made an effort to keep Skoda's brand identity independent. As one of the first steps towards improving Skoda's image in the market, VW decided to focus on the company's heritage as one of the oldest car makers in the world.

Eastern European cars, with their flimsy and often faulty parts, their unfashionable image and their engines and propulsion systems in the back, became a bit of a joke in the West in the Cold War years. Skoda Laura 1Z3 model first-generation, direct Imported model, Completely Built Unit (CBU) first-generation has its share of faults.

Firstly, it seemed like the performance of the vehicle was not even. When we first diagnosed four of its wheel bearing was gone. As you know Skoda is German and it has Hub Assembly and once the wheel bearings are gone the entire hub unit is affected. Unlike in Japanese cars which has child parts which can wear and tear easily and can be replaced easily causing recurrent expenses but in these German cars replace the whole part thereby being more expansive during service. An AMC is the best bet as Skoda covers both labour and parts as they replace the entire assembly in the event of a small wear and tear issue.

Secondly, since it’s a big 1.9 TDI PD engine it's heavier. This is more like a sports sedan or a luxury sedan. Skoda keeps upgrading their models. What people don’t understand that it is structurally very sound with 4/5 star safety rating by Euro NCAP, but has very low ground clearance which most people don’t enjoy as the under chassis keeps rubbing the ground.
The current trend of the preventive maintenance concept means it will run now but it may breakdown suddenly.

As a service-oriented company, we know what a running condition or a faulty condition is. It’s wrong to compare good running condition and new parts as equal. Running repairs is one concept where parts and components have worn and torn and then we maintain. It is stretching the limit, is done just before it is completely broken down in the middle of the road. It is very important to know the history of maintenance on your vehicle.

It helps anyone who is later servicing the vehicle. As a customer, it may not interest a person but as service personnel, it is imperative to know its servicing history. It is always advisable to service your car just before the defined wear and tear limit as and when symptoms occur, as it may help in the reduction of wear and tear of the vehicle as a whole and can attribute to longer life of critical components.
There can be various combinations of reasons for wheel bearing wear and tear.

Tyre pressure, wheel alignment, tyre health, wheel health, tyre rim bend or crack can cause the wheel bearing fault. A German Concept of servicing is reaching that root cause of the issue and not doing it superficially. The fault should not recur apart from the regular wear and tear.

About EGR Valve

EGR valve or the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve needs to be cleaned once in a while especially diesel engines which are driven for short distances and are not brought to operating temperatures fast enough. The slow rise in temperature will not burn the carbon soot particles in the EGR valve which results in smoke, low power and bad mileage. If the exhaust pipe chokes totally then the car is in for major trouble.

Diesel engines equipped with EGR Valves and particulate filters converters tend to get clogged easily. The smart systems have inbuilt programming that allows the engines to run at higher temperatures thereby helping burn the carbon particles. The basic model of a car tends to be the least intelligence and experience all the maintenance issues. Some cars don’t give any warning they give you frequent stalling or starts smoking.

The whole exercise of repair can be a very risky and expensive affair. These can only be diagnosed by specialist or professionals who are diagnostic experts. They give you an appropriate explanation of the errors. A regular service person will know the complete history of servicing thus will do a good job of it. We as service personnel do not fleece any customer. We only do Good Diagnoses, Good practice and change only necessary parts unless a customer requests for a part change. A customer should not get carried away with the estimates the service person gives as the cost of the parts may vary. We as diagnostic experts work on all cars. Our work correlates with diagnoses.
