Introduction to Skoda
Skoda one of the oldest car companies in the world, set up in the late 1800s, enjoyed considerable repute in the first half of the 1900s. However, its fortunes turned after the Second World War, when it first came under N**i control and was later nationalized by the Czechoslovakian government. By the 1980s, Skoda cars had lost track of the technological advancements in the West and were widely derided for their poor quality and unreliability.
In 1991, Volkswagen (VW) acquired a stake in Skoda. Following this, VW went about systematically transforming Skoda's image and establishing it as a reliable mass-market car brand. When VW took over Skoda, the two companies had little in common. VW was known the world over for the quality of its engineering.
VW's approach to transforming Skoda was gradual and incremental. The company used a collaborative and nurturing strategy in bringing about improvements at Skoda. From the beginning, VW made an effort to keep Skoda's brand identity independent. As one of the first steps towards improving Skoda's image in the market, VW decided to focus on the company's heritage as one of the oldest car makers in the world.
Eastern European cars, with their flimsy and often faulty parts, their unfashionable image and their engines and propulsion systems in the back, became a bit of a joke in the West in the Cold War years. Skoda Laura 1Z3 model first-generation, direct Imported model, Completely Built Unit (CBU) first-generation has its share of faults.

Firstly, it seemed like the performance of the vehicle was not even. When we first diagnosed four of its wheel bearing was gone. As you know Skoda is German and it has Hub Assembly and once the wheel bearings are gone the entire hub unit is affected. Unlike in Japanese cars which has child parts which can wear and tear easily and can be replaced easily causing recurrent expenses but in these German cars replace the whole part thereby being more expansive during service. An AMC is the best bet as Skoda covers both labour and parts as they replace the entire assembly in the event of a small wear and tear issue.
Secondly, since it’s a big 1.9 TDI PD engine it's heavier. This is more like a sports sedan or a luxury sedan. Skoda keeps upgrading their models. What people don’t understand that it is structurally very sound with 4/5 star safety rating by Euro NCAP, but has very low ground clearance which most people don’t enjoy as the under chassis keeps rubbing the ground.
The current trend of the preventive maintenance concept means it will run now but it may breakdown suddenly.

There can be various combinations of reasons for wheel bearing wear and tear.
Tyre pressure, wheel alignment, tyre health, wheel health, tyre rim bend or crack can cause the wheel bearing fault. A German Concept of servicing is reaching that root cause of the issue and not doing it superficially. The fault should not recur apart from the regular wear and tear.
About EGR Valve
EGR valve or the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve needs to be cleaned once in a while especially diesel engines which are driven for short distances and are not brought to operating temperatures fast enough. The slow rise in temperature will not burn the carbon soot particles in the EGR valve which results in smoke, low power and bad mileage. If the exhaust pipe chokes totally then the car is in for major trouble.

Diesel engines equipped with EGR Valves and particulate filters converters tend to get clogged easily. The smart systems have inbuilt programming that allows the engines to run at higher temperatures thereby helping burn the carbon particles. The basic model of a car tends to be the least intelligence and experience all the maintenance issues. Some cars don’t give any warning they give you frequent stalling or starts smoking.
The whole exercise of repair can be a very risky and expensive affair. These can only be diagnosed by specialist or professionals who are diagnostic experts. They give you an appropriate explanation of the errors. A regular service person will know the complete history of servicing thus will do a good job of it. We as service personnel do not fleece any customer. We only do Good Diagnoses, Good practice and change only necessary parts unless a customer requests for a part change. A customer should not get carried away with the estimates the service person gives as the cost of the parts may vary. We as diagnostic experts work on all cars. Our work correlates with diagnoses.
