Electropolishing is an electrochemical process that removes a very thin layer of metal from the surface, making it smoother, cleaner, and brighter.
How it works
1. The metal part is immersed in an acid-based electrolyte.
2. The part is connected as the anode (positive electrode).
3. A cathode is placed in the solution.
4. DC current is passed through the bath.
5. Tiny peaks on the surface dissolve faster than valleys, resulting in a smooth finish.
Benefits
* Produces a bright, mirror-like finish.
* Removes burrs and microscopic sharp edges.
* Improves corrosion resistance (especially stainless steel).
* Removes contaminants, welding scale, and embedded iron.
* Reduces surface roughness, making parts easier to clean.
Common applications
* Food processing equipment
* Medical instruments
* Pharmaceutical components
* Automotive parts
* Precision sheet metal components
* Aerospace parts
