Did you know that using "fungus-proof" plastics isn't always enough to pass military environmental testing?

Under MIL-STD-810H Method 508.8, electronics spend 28 days in high humidity (30°C, 90–100% RH). Even when materials don't serve as food for mold, surface contaminants like dust or solder flux residue can trigger an "Indirect Fungal Attack." The acids excreted by the mold can permanently etch optical glass lenses and corrode PCB traces!

To protect your hardware:
✅ Use non-nutrient synthetic elastomers (like EPDM or Fluorosilicone)

In the field, corrosion is rarely static. Equipment alternates between salt exposure, drying periods, and high ambient humidity.

That is why cyclic salt spray testing under IEC 60068-2-52 is essential for outdoor, railway, and marine hardware. Instead of constant salt fog, it puts products through real-world environmental transitions:
• 4 rounds of 2h salt spray (25°C) followed by 22h humidity storage (40°C, 50% RH)
• A subsequent 72h (3-day) storage period at 23°C and 93% RH
