In 1987, Hemantbhai Ambalal Patel started Gita Mediquip in Ahmedabad. The furniture he began building eventually reached hospital wards across India: the beds patients recovered in, the equipment families sat beside during the hardest weeks of their lives. Gita Mediquip is a second-generation family business, founded in Ahmedabad in 1987. Today, the company is led by Harpal Patel and Vikram Panchal, sons of the founder and co-founder respectively. The people who use it have no reason to know who made it. That has always felt like exactly the right relationship between the work and those it serves. 37 years. 7,000+ hospitals. Still building.
