Infrastructure is an integral part of the society and plays a vital role in its economic and social development. In a developing country like India, infrastructure development has become an integral part of our growth story creating a strong need of professionals in the infrastructure sector. To successfully cater to this need, such professionals, apart from being technically sound, should also be
good managers, have the necessary personnel skills, and be able to appreciate the socio-cultural context of growth and development. There is already a dearth of high-caliber professionals in the sector—a concern voiced by the industry to CEPT on many forums. Catering to the growing need of top professionals, with skill sets and knowledge specifically aligned with industry needs is going to be challenging. With a view to cater to the demands of the infrastructure industry and produce professional with specific skill sets aligned with industry needs, CEPT University started the MIEM Program in April 2009, housed under the Faculty of Technology. Like all other programs at CEPT University, MIEM Programs are unique in its own way, as they intend to provide an appropriate blend of both engineering and management skills sets and knowledge in the infrastructure sector. The course aims to combine the emerging aspects of modern technology along with infrastructure engineering, planning & development, and management & finance, through taught courses, hands-on studio/lab work on live projects, summer training, and independent dissertation & mini-project. Leading infrastructure professionals are invited to deliver guest lectures and engage in interactive discussion with students. Since the inception of the Program, public authorities and consulting firms have shown keen interest in this Program and have come forward to provide opportunities to students to work on some complex problems hoping for new and innovative solutions.
