Indian Captain Smit Machchhar has been hailed as a hero for saving 174 lives after being seriously injured aboard a Flydubai flight. Despite his injuries, he managed to open the cockpit door, enabling others to intervene.

Dr. S***a Musaev, a dentist and the only medical professional on board, immediately stepped in to help. Using what was available, including first-aid materials, and applying direct manual pressure, he was able to control the captain’s heavy bleeding until further medical care was available.

But emergencies involving serious bleeding can happen anywhere, not just on flights, but also in road traffic accidents, trauma scenes and emergency and pre-hospital settings. When severe bleeding occurs, having purpose-designed bleeding-control solutions readily available can complement first-aid skills and help manage bleeding while definitive medical care is reached.

Haemostatic dressings such as Axiostat can be part of that preparedness, helping manage significant bleeding as part of an appropriate trauma-care response.

We salute Captain Machchhar, Dr. Musaev and everyone who stepped forward when it mattered.

Over three engaging days at WUWHS 2026, the MaxioCel team connected with clinicians, partners and wound-care professionals from around the world, exchanging perspectives on wound management, clinical practice and patient care.

We were honoured to engage with Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Harikrishna K.R.Nair, the authors who presented their clinical work, and everyone who visited us to share their experiences and learn more about MaxioCel®.

From scientific presentations and discussions around challenging wounds to live product interactions and our lucky draws, every moment contributed to a memorable WUWHS experience.
