Rosacea may show up as redness on the surface, but the changes that contribute to it often begin deeper in the skin.

IPL works by targeting haemoglobin within dilated blood vessels. As the light is absorbed, this process can help reduce the appearance of facial redness in suitable patients over a course of treatments.

Because rosacea is an ongoing condition, treatment is often just one part of a broader management plan that includes follow-up care and sun protection.

Rosacea is a chronic condition, so treatment is about managing its visible symptoms rather than curing the condition.

IPL is one light-based option that may help reduce rosacea-associated facial erythema and visible vascular lesions in selected patients by targeting dilated blood vessels.

There’s more to treatment planning than the IPL session itself. Treatment is generally avoided during an active flare, and careful sun protection is important before and after treatment. Sun exposure can trigger rosacea and may also increase the risk of irritation and pigmentary changes.

If you work with rosacea patients, share this with them before their consultation to help set expectations.
