If your spray finish is suffering, runs, uneven coat, the gun cutting in and out, the first thing to check is your compressor output, not the gun itself.

Spray guns need a sustained 8-10 CFM at around 30 PSI. Most small direct drive compressors can manage a burst but cannot hold that pressure during a full panel. When the compressor cannot keep up, air pressure drops mid-coat and you get exactly those results.

Quite a common question we get: direct drive or belt drive?

Direct drive compressors are compact, lower maintenance, and cost less up front. The motor connects straight to the pump, nothing to adjust, no belt to replace. Good for intermittent use and workshops where space is tight.

Belt drive runs the pump at lower RPM via a belt and pulley. Cooler running, quieter, and longer pump life under heavy sustained use, which is why body shops and production workshops tend to go that route.
