(scroll down for English)
🔹 mikrocementnél: a repedés áttükröződése a folytonos felületen
❗ A legfontosabb azonban:

🧱 Screed Crack Stitching –
When and Why Is It Necessary?
This is a continuation of my previous post.
Cracks can develop in screed due to drying, shrinkage or improper installation. Not every crack automatically needs to be stitched, but certain cracks should be properly treated before the final floor covering is installed.
The purpose of crack stitching is to connect the two sides of the crack and reduce further movement, helping to prevent the crack from reappearing in the finished floor covering.
⚠️ Why is it important?
If a crack that requires repair is not treated properly, it may eventually appear in the finished floor:
🔹 Ceramic or stone tiles:
cracked grout joints, cracked tiles, debonding or lifting
🔹 Parquet flooring:
squeaking, opening of joints, debonding or deformation
🔹 Microcement:
the crack may reflect through to the continuous finished surface
🔹 Resin flooring:
cracking, debonding or delamination of the coating
In other words, a screed crack only a few millimetres wide can turn into a much more extensive and costly repair after the final floor covering has been installed.
🔧 How is it done?
The crack is first cleaned, and small grooves are then cut perpendicular to the crack. Suitable connecting elements, such as screed stitching staples, are placed into these grooves. Finally, the grooves and the crack itself are filled with a suitable repair resin.
The exact procedure – including the spacing and depth of the cuts, the type of stitching elements and the resin used – should always follow the requirements of the specific repair system.
🔥 Particularly important with underfloor heating
With underfloor heating, the exact location of the heating pipes must be known before any cutting is carried out.
The pipes must be protected from damage during the installation of the stitching grooves. Where necessary, instrumental detection of the pipe layout may therefore be appropriate.
❗ The most important point, however:
Crack stitching is not a solution for every crack.
If the crack has been caused by, for example, incorrect joint detailing, structural movement, an inadequate build-up or another construction defect, the underlying cause must first be identified.
Proper crack stitching is not about hiding the crack – it is about carrying out the appropriate technical repair.
If you are interested in the process in more detail, it is explained thoroughly in this video:

🏗️ Good construction supervision is not only about checking whether the screed has been installed. It is also about making sure that the future floor covering has a sound and suitable substrate to be installed on.
