In fact, it was through our audio development work for Saab that we became close to Clarion.
Until 2006, Saab used Clarion-based head units in its OG 9-3/9-5 models. Although not obvious from the outside, Clarion was the exclusive factory supplier of head units for the NG900 as well. For the 9000 and OG 900 models - with few exceptions - Clarion also served as the OEM supplier.
We, too, have traveled this path when it comes to developments, so we are delighted to now offer plug-and-play Bluetooth upgrades for the Clarion systems found in the vintage 900 and 9000 series.
The task was not simple, because in the 80s and 90s, a search for direction was underway within the walls as well. Two Clarion head units from the very same model year might operate differently at a logic level—or even utilize completely different communication protocols.
We have now successfully developed the BT Changer software to handle these variations. We integrated this into other Saab systems and whether it is a universal head unit from 1992 or an advanced unit from a 2012 9-3, we support them all.
But what makes this so great?
Well, I have to admit that from a business perspective, this isn't exactly a big deel. However, there is a truly wonderful side to it: we can keep these beautiful, fully functional hi-fi systems alive.
The atmosphere characteristic of that era - complete with the pixelated display and the green-lit, tactile buttons - remains intact, while the device itself is now capable of more than ever before.
What’s more, the BT Changer can now be used not only in Saabs but also in an old Peugeot or even a Lancia.
Let’s keep them in working order for as long as possible.
