To facilitate experience sharing and to promote development on building services engineering between the Mainland and Hong Kong SAR, The HKIE (BS Division), ASHRAE (HK Chapter), CIBSE (HK Region), and HK PolyU (Dept. of BEEE), have jointly organised symposiums in various Mainland cities over the years, including Harbin, Hefei, Changsha, Fuzhou, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Qingdao, Shenyang, Wuhan, Chengdu, Taiyuan, and Kunming 🤝🏻🤝🏻

[👩‍🔧 WIBSE Experience Sharing cm Personal Image Workshop]

A massive thank you to all the talented women who joined us for the WIBSE Experience Sharing cm Personal Image Workshop! It was an empowering evening focused on our theme, "Shaping Visibility for Women in Engineering," filled with vibrant energy and invaluable professional insights. 🚀

🌸 The event began with warm welcome remarks from Ir Alice CHOW - President of HKIE, followed by insightful sharing from Ir John CHAN - Chairman of HKIE-BSD, and Ir Marsden KONG - Vice Chairman of HKIE-BSD, emphasizing the importance of empowering and supporting women in the engineering community.

The workshop included interactive group discussions on various topics, fostering a strong sense of community and support among participants. From navigating career paths and mentorship to enhancing work-life balance and site communication, the sessions provided a platform for sharing valuable experiences and strategies to help women engineers shape their visibility at work.

Following the discussions, participants took part in a Personal Image Workshop by Ms. Carmen WAN. The session provided practical tips on professional presence and confidence, helping everyone refine their business image and professional identity.

In this visit, Member will be able to appreciate t[phe Integrated Facility Management Control Tower (IFMCT), Hong Kong’s first AI-powered intelligent facility management platform launched by Hongkong Land. The platform connects over 20 standalone building systems into a single platform - integrating the Building Management System (BMS), AI-driven Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems (HVAC), thermal comfort control, energy optimization, and soft services such as cleaning, vendor management, procurement and tenant wellness monitoring.

By leveraging real-time monitoring, advanced AI analytics, and 4D digital twin visualisation, the advanced system enhances operational efficiency and minimizes disruptions, improving reliability and extending asset lifecycles.

Technical Seminar on Zero-Carbon Chiller System Project in Nina Tower

🌼Programme Highlight:

The First Zero-Carbon Chiller System Project in Hong Kong at Nina Tower set a new benchmark for chiller plant replacement project on energy efficiency and carbon neutrality to counter climate change and growing demand on energy efficiency. This project replaces 7 nos. of traditional air-cooled chillers, into an advanced water-cooled system adopting HFO refrigerant with 6 nos. of water-cooled chillers.

This transformation results in over 50% reduction in electricity consumption and reduces approximately 7,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, aligning with global decarbonization goals and the anticipated climate risk. Multiple advanced technologies have been adopted in this project, including Multi-trade integrated Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MiMEP) for streamlining project ex*****on, Vertical District Cooling System for enhancing system’s reliability, Building Information Modelling (BIM) for enhancing project coordination and lifecycle management, and Digital Twins for facilitating real-time monitoring and optimization ability via Artificial Intelligence, significantly enhancing energy saving and system resilience against climate impacts. The project also underscores the importance of Green Electricity Certificates sourced from renewable energy, ensuring the entire cooling system operates on zero-carbon principles. This initiative aligned with Climate Action Plan 2050, targeting substantial reductions in operational carbon intensity by 2030.

This technical seminar will briefly introduce the innovative design, construction approach and strategies on operation under this flagship project.

【Chairman’s Message】

It is a profound honour to serve as the Chairman of the Building Services Division for the 2025/2026 session. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all past Chairmen for their exemplary leadership, and to our dedicated committee members, observers, and volunteers for their invaluable contributions.

As Hong Kong continues to navigate a dynamic and evolving economic landscape, the role of Building Services professionals has never been more critical. In the wake of the pandemic, while signs of recovery are emerging, global economic uncertainties and geopolitical challenges persist. In this context, our profession stands at a pivotal juncture—tasked not only with supporting economic revitalization but also with enhancing the resilience and sustainability of our built environment.

Innovation will be a cornerstone of our initiatives. Through our various task groups, we will actively promote the adoption of advanced technologies, drive operational excellence, and elevate user experience across the industry.

Collaboration is another key to our success. The Division will foster strong partnerships with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and other HKIE divisions. We will continue to organize joint technical visits and seminars, including those in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), and explore mutual recognition opportunities with professional bodies in the region. These efforts will enhance professional mobility and create new opportunities for our members.

We also recognize the importance of community engagement. Through our school outreach initiative, ConnectwithBSD, and our social media platforms, we will promote awareness of Building Services Engineering and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in this vital field.

I invite all of you to actively participate in our upcoming programs and events. Your continued support is essential to our shared success.
