Thermoformed packaging is plastic that is shaped to hold a specific product. This category includes clamshells, blisters and vacuum-formed trays that insert into other packaging materials. Clamshells are connected on one side and fold in half to create a container (e.g., to-go salad containers or ink cartridge packaging). Blisters are plastic trays, similar to ice trays, that hold gum or medicines and are usually encased with a tin backing. Vacuum-formed trays are like blister trays except they are created to hold a specific shape (e.g., Christmas ornaments or perfume bottles) and to be inserted in other packaging products.
