We endorse and approve your drawings by stamping for you as well and then submit to your District Assembly.

We shall start our cost estimation for a 2 bedroom apartment. The main purpose of this series is to help you understand how we come about with our estimates (We at Teledem Construction Ventures) as well as other estimators do. The estimates may be low or high to you but keep in mind that we are making the estimate based on a proposed 2 bedroom apartment. There are other limiting factors that we may not consider since this is basically for educational purposes only. For instance, we assume a flat land and a good ground.

Features of this 2 bedroom apartment are:
1 master bedroom ensuite
1 bedroom with WC/bath
1 visitors’ washroom
Large living room
Kitchen
Dining area
Store room
Porch

Let’s start from EXCAVATION!
Bear in mind we are considering an isolated foundation from our structural design for this purpose.
How much must you pay for excavation? How do you determine that from your building design or plan?
Take a close look at our plan. You will notice all the dimensions on it. We will use these dimensions to determine the total volume of earth to be excavated. This volume will enable us to determine how much must be paid for excavation.

Adding all the lengths on the drawing gave us 1232000mm or 123.2m in total.

The depth of excavation we are using is 3ft or 0.9m and the width of excavation we are using is 2' in feet or 0.6m(working space allowance)for the trenches.
Total volume to excavate = 123.2*0.9*0.6
=66.53m3
This volume is approximately 67m3

Now, we need to excavate also for the column base. There are 28 columns or pillars in our design. Each column will be excavated 1 foot (0.3m) more than the trench.
Details of the column base
Length =1m
Width = 1m
Depth = 0.3m
Volume for one column base = 1*1*0.3
=0.3
Volume for 28 column bases = 0.3*28
=8.4m3
This volume is approximately 9m3

For excavation, we at TELEDEM CONST. charge GH¢35.00 per cubic metre.
Total volume of excavation = Trench excavation + Column base excavation
=67+9
=76m3
Estimated cost of excavation = 76 *35
=GH¢ 2,660.00
Therefore, you will be spending close to GH¢2,660.00 to excavate your two bedroom apartment based on our plan.
