🤔When to replace your sails?

Being sailmakers we get asked these types of questions a lot:

"Do you think we could get another season out of them"
"Maybe if we just patched the section, we could continue using them"
"We will wait and see how they do by the end of the summer"
"Do you think it is worth just replacing the UV Strip"

Upgrading undersized rigging - We had a gut feeling that the mainmast rigging on this 70’s moody was undersized which was confirmed after running it through our proprietary program based on the vessels RM30. We moved it from 8mm to 10mm upping the pin sizes from 1/2” to 5/8” which meant new chainplates and tangs too! With some serious oceans to cross in the near future will be much safer

Forestays are usually in the middle right? These old Moody’s used to have a bridge piece over the bow roller which kept the forestay in the middle and loaded the chainplate fairly. At some point in the past this was removed and the stay was linked directly to the Stb side cheek. This created all kinds of issues with loading, anchor interference, the pushpit was even bent to fit the furling drum. We found some examples of the original bridges and had our fabricator recreate it, a little taller to be able to clear their new anchor. We will have the sail re-cut to suit a slightly smaller luff length, but we’re not too worried about sail area as we’re also adding an inner forestay just behind here! We also updated the forestay from 8mm to 10mm for ocean cruising, as well as the rest of the mainmast rigging for
