SPTC - Construction Materials Testing and Engineering was originally founded by the Georgian Research Institute of Energy and Energy Structures in 1928, as a department specifically dealing with building materials and reinforced concrete structures. From that time, the department's activities were mainly focussed on projects in Georgia and the Caucasus region, and in particular on the construction
of hydroelectric power stations and other hydraulic (flowing liquid) based structures. Additionally, the department also participated in the construction of hydroelectric power stations and other concrete based structures in the Middle & Far East, Siberia and other regions of the former Soviet Union. In the 2007 the department was privatised and incorporated as SPTC, with the letters being the Latin transliteration of the original Georgian department name. Since then, the company has undertaken testing and monitoring work on a long list of prestigious national and international construction projects including the reconstruction of Tbilisi International Airport and the newly constructed Presidential Palace/Residence in Tbilisi. Today, the company's primary focus is on the testing of prestressed concrete beams, the testing of concrete anchors, aggregates testing, concrete core/block testing and steel rope/rebar testing, as well as the general monitoring of construction projects from a quality/safety perspective. The company is fully equipped to carry out testing in accordance with national (Georgian) regulations for the construction industry (bearing in mind that Georgia is within a seismic zone) as well as international regulations/standards (i.e. ASTM, BS and European standards etc.).
“ნაგებობების დაპროექტებისა და ტესტირების ცენტრი” 1928 წელს დაარსებული საქართველოს ენერგეტიკისა და ენერგეტიკულ ნაგებობათა სამეცნიერო-კვლევითი ინტიტუტის სამშენებლო მასალებისა და რკინაბეტონის კონსტრუქციების განყოფილების ბაზაზე შეიქმნა. ცენტრის თანამშრომლები ძირითადად ემსახურებოდნენ საქართველოსა და კავკასიის რეგიონს, აგრეთვე მონაწილეობდნენ შუა აზიის, შორეული აღმოსავლეთის, ციმბირისა და ყოფილი საბჭოთა კავშირის სხვა რეგიონების ჰიდროელექტრო სადგურებისა და ჰიდროტექნიკური თუ სხვა სფეროების ნაგებობების მშენებლობის პროცესებში. “ცენტრი” აღჭურვილია ყველა საჭირო მოწყობილობითა და დანადგარით, რომლის მეშვეობითაც წარმოებს მშენებლობაში გამოყენებულ მასალათა კვლევები. ყველა ტესტირება ხორციელდება ქვეყანაში მოქმედი ნორმატულ დოკუმენტთა მოთხოვნების თანახმად. ამასთან ერთად, „ცენტრს“ გააჩნია შესაძლებლობა დამკვეთის მოთხოვნის შესაბამისად გამოცდები აწარმოოს სხვა ქვეყნების ნორმატიული დოკუმენტების (მაგალითად, ბრიტანული BS, ამერიკული ASTM, ევროკოდებისა და სხვ.) მიხედვითაც.
«SPTC - Центр Тестирования и Проектирования Сооружений» был создан на базе отдела «Строительных материалов и железобетонных конструкций» НИИ Энергетики и энергетических сооружений Грузии, основанного в 1928 году. Сотрудники «Центра» в основном работали в Грузии и Кавказском регионе, а также принимали участие в процессе строительств гидроэлектростанций и гидротехнических или других видов сооружений на Ближнем и Дальнем Востоке, в Сибири и других регионах бывшего Советского Союза. «Центр» оснащен всем необходимым оборудованием и техникой, с помощью которых производятся тестирование используемых в строительстве материалов. Все проводимые «Центром» испытания осуществляются в соответствии с требованиями действующих в стране нормативных документов. Кроме того, по требованию заказчика, «Центр» имеет возможность провести испытания согласно нормативным документам и других странах (например, Британский BS, Американский ASTM, Европейские коды и др.).
