Our Zone direct drill sowing into a grass pasture. The leading disc is cutting the grass sword reducing the disturbance but will this be the best approach? Will the tine only side have a better seed establishment because the original grass growth will be reduced and the new seed will less competition?

Direct drilling today with our 6m Zone tine drill which is setup in 2 configurations to show them both working. On the left of the video is 12 J J Metcalfe and Son Ltd 12mm wide tine coulters in 3 rows then depth wheels and following harrow which is slightly raised on the ground. On the right in the video is 12 cutting discs then 12 sowing tines in 2 rows, then the following harrow slightly raised and finally 12 press wheels which are also depth control. The tractor was travelling at 10 kph.

Hopefully next week we can get some good footage of the drill working showing the J J Metcalfe and Son Ltd leading cutting disc and the 12mm point sowing with very low disturbance followed by the press wheel to finish the job off. This seed drill qualifys for the FEFT 2026 grant.

What a difference a bit of sunshine makes. With a big help from the terra tyres we’ve got the first dose of fertiliser on. Oilseed r**e looks to good to be true, silage grasses have received enough nitrogen to get them to the middle of April when I have booked a dry spell with 20 degree heat for 3 days!!!! The wheat is good but ready for a dry spell, with the last field of the day being the wettest 1 pass of the tractor was ok but drive on it again was a different story.

Thank you to all those who came to see use in our 10th year exhibiting at Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show.
