You’ve probably heard of milking robots… but do you know what actually happens when a cow walks in? 🐄

Daryl, one of our Service Engineers, talks through how the works from start to finish.
First, the cow walks into the robot and is identified through her tag or collar. The robot then knows exactly who she is and whether she’s due to be milked. Feed is provided based on settings managed through Horizon and tailored to that cow.

Next, the robot’s brushes clean the teats to help prepare for milking and support udder hygiene. After that, the teat detection system uses laser and camera technology to position the cups accurately.

Once attached, milk is collected through the robot and monitored before being transferred into the farm’s milk system and tank. During the process, milk data and quality information including indicators that support cell count monitoring are captured to help with herd management too.

One of the biggest benefits of the Lely Discovery Collector C2 is how little maintenance it needs to keep performing day after day, there are only a few simple checks you need to do. Keep the ultrasound sensor clean so the robot can navigate the shed accurately, check filters are clean and make sure the water jets stay clear and free from blockages

Then just one annual service from your engineer is required to change oils, complete software updates, and make sure the system continues running at its full potential.

A new step forward at Moorshard Farm 🐄

A successful installation of two new Lely Astronaut A5 units alongside the Lely Discovery Collector C2 is now up and running at Moorshard Farm. On start-up day, the team was on farm supporting Brian and the team helping them get familiar with the A5s and making sure everything was set up and ready to go smoothly. For farmers, that means a system that doesn’t stand still it evolves with you.
