It’s the time of year when fallen leaves make lawns look messy and cause a slip hazard on paths. Is your garden rake ready to clear them away? 🍂

Raking leaves can be a tedious task - but it takes even longer with a worn-out tool. If your garden rake is past its prime, with a loose handle or missing teeth, it’s time for an upgrade.

Our rakes are made by Richard Carter Tools, with hardwood handles and robust metal or plastic teeth. With wide heads for clearing heavier debris, and long handles for comfortable working, they’re perfect for clearing large areas.

Can your workplace respond quickly to burns, eye injuries, or cardiac arrests? The latest first aid guidelines aim to improve preparedness. ⛑️

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has updated the British Standard for workplace first aid equipment, BS 8599-1. It recommends that first aid provision be extended to cover common emergencies where a higher risk is identified:

✅ High risk of burns: burns kit containing a face mask burn dressing.
✅ High risk of eye injury: sterile eye dressings plus eye wash solution in bottles and pods.
✅ Premises with five or more people on site: AED defibrillator, ready to use within two minutes of all areas. Larger sites may require multiple devices.

Guidelines for general workplace first aid kits haven’t changed, so you can still use these if they’re compliant. They should be appropriate for the workplace size, staff and visitor numbers, and level of risk.

Although British Standards aren’t laws, following the recommendations of BS 8599-1 demonstrates that your business is meeting its legal duty of care to workers and visitors.

First aid equipment in the workplace could save someone’s life. But how do you know which items you should keep on site? 🩹🤕⛑️

The type and amount of equipment you need is dependent on the size of the company, your own risk assessments, and the specific hazards of your work environment.

The bigger your company, the more kits you’ll need - especially if your employees are at high risk. For specific risks, you may need specialist provisions such as trauma kits, eye wash stations, and emergency showers.

Whatever equipment you keep on site, make sure it’s easily accessible and replenished after each use!
