Elvis Presley’s Iconic “Guitar Car” Returns to the U.S. After Decades Abroad
A legendary piece of rock ‘n’ roll history has finally made its way back to American soil. Dezerland Park Orlando has announced the acquisition of Elvis Presley’s famous “Guitar Car,” a one-of-a-kind, guitar-shaped pink Cadillac that has been overseas and out of public view for decades.
Created in the 1970s by renowned Hollywood custom car designer Jay Ohrberg, the 41-foot-long vehicle was built as a bold tribute to Elvis Presley and reflects the larger-than-life style of the King of Rock and Roll. Shaped like a giant guitar and once personally driven by Elvis, the car quickly became one of the most unforgettable celebrity vehicles ever made.
After years in international private ownership, the Guitar Car has now returned to the United States following its purchase by Michael Dezer, founder of Dezerland Park Orlando and one of the world’s most prominent collectors of rare and celebrity automobiles.
“Very few vehicles represent American music and pop culture the way this one does,” Dezer said. “Bringing Elvis’s Guitar Car back to the U.S. is something we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re excited to let fans experience this piece of history up close.”
The car will soon be unveiled to the public at Dezerland Park Orlando before undergoing a full restoration. Visitors to the Orlando Auto Museum will be able to watch the restoration process in real time, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at the revival of an iconic custom car.
Once completed, the Guitar Car will serve as the centerpiece of a new exhibit celebrating the visionary work of Jay Ohrberg. His imaginative creations have appeared in countless films, television shows, and moments of pop culture history. Dezerland’s Orlando and Las Vegas locations are also home to Ohrberg’s “The American Dream,” the world’s longest limousine.
The acquisition further strengthens Dezerland’s reputation as a global automotive destination. The Orlando Auto Museum currently displays more than 2,500 rare and famous vehicles valued at over $200 million, including legendary cars from James Bond, Batman, and the Fast & Furious film franchise.
