Robin, one of our engineers, has recently attended the ESS site in Sweden, where GRE have multiple pure-water cooling systems installed.
The site was designed to be the worlds most powerful neutron source, where protons are accelerated along a 600 metre long tunnel then hit a tungsten source. This impact spallates the tungsten target and generates neutrons which then scatter into multiple instruments - where groundbreaking research is made.
Robin was there to change a vacuum pump (which removes oxygen from the deionised water to vastly reduce corrosion to the ESS instruments) on one of the systems and complete the Site Acceptance Test on another.
