A regular customer came to us thinking the clutch needed replacing because he could no longer select gears. However, the gearbox was making a horrible noise, which immediately made us suspicious that there was more going on.
Our first surprise came when we drained the gearbox oil — there was barely 200 ml left in it. At that point, we knew this was going to be a much bigger job than the customer had expected.
The gearbox had suffered catastrophic internal failure, with the casing breaking apart due to the damage and oil loss.
The repair ended up involving a replacement used gearbox, new clutch, dual-mass flywheel, concentric slave cylinder, and fresh gearbox oil.
Hopefully, that's the end of the drama and the car will now enjoy many thousands of trouble-free miles! 🔧🚗💨

A short story: “What you can find after a timing chain skips…” 🔧💀

Oil sump removed… and inside? Pieces of timing chain guides, plastic debris, and some unidentified “premium engine seasoning.” The customer said: “It was only making a noise…”

Checking timing on locking tools — and yep, the timing was way out. Chain skipped enough to make the engine timing look completely drunk.

More inspection, more bad news. The tensioner fought bravely until the very end, but physics always wins. At this point the real question was not if it skipped… but how much damage it caused.

Finally, progress. New parts fitted, timing carefully reset and aligned properly. Slowly turning chaos back into an engine again.

Job nearly complete — timing set correctly, engine back in sync, and no longer sounding like a toolbox in a washing machine 😎
