🚧 Our Largest Diameter Autoclave to Date Has Left the Workshop 🚧

A big milestone for the team—our largest diameter autoclave we’ve ever manufactured has officially left the workshop and is on its way to site for IMPREGNA/ Rundvirke Poles AB.

This unit is a Ø3.2m x 22.0m high-pressure treatment autoclave, designed for demanding wood impregnation processes using Bethell & Lowry processes. Specifically engineered for the treatment of poles and sleepers, it’s built to handle large-scale industrial requirements.

From heavy-duty fabrication to precision engineering, this project has been a real team effort—showcasing the skill, experience, and attention to detail across the business.

Key highlights:
▪️ 22-metre length with a 179m³ capacity
▪️ Manufactured from 20mm thick steel
▪️ Designed for pressures from -1barg up to +14barg
▪️ Fully integrated hydraulic door system

Maintaining critical infrastructure in wood treatment and timber impregnation plants is essential for safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

We recently completed a full tray replacement and rail track upgrade, delivering a 21-metre heavy-duty solution designed to improve performance, durability, and day-to-day reliability within a demanding industrial environment.

The Challenge

In wood treatment plants, components such as rail track trays and handling systems are constantly exposed to heavy loads, moisture, chemicals, and long-term wear. Over time, this can lead to corrosion, misalignment, and reduced efficiency—impacting both safety and productivity.

The Solution

We designed, manufactured, and installed a robust replacement system tailored to the existing plant setup. The upgrade included:

▪️ 5mm thick mild steel construction for increased strength
▪️ Precision folding to match existing rail profiles
▪️ Corrosion-resistant coating suited to harsh environments
▪️ Improved tray design to enhance fluid recovery and durability

Installation Process

A full turnkey approach ensured minimal disruption:

• Removal of existing tray and preparation of the base structure
• Installation of the new 21-metre rail track tray system
• Reinstallation and refurbishment of existing rails and walkways
• Alignment checks and commissioning to ensure smooth, safe operation

Another major project delivered 🚛

Last week, this Ø2.0m x 12.0m compact wood impregnation plant left our workshop, now en route to Ireland.

This fully integrated system features a 39m³ autoclave with a pressure rating of -1 to +14 barg, mounted directly onto a 48m³ storage tank.

The plant incorporates a complete vacuum and pressure system, automated mixing, powered rail track, and the TTS OptiTreat control system for advanced process control and operational efficiency.

Built for performance, reliability, and ease of operation, this compact solution maximises throughput while maintaining a reduced footprint—ideal for modern treatment facilities.

A great way to end the year — the last major dispatch from our UK facility:
a Ø2.2m x 13.0m High-Pressure Timber Treatment Plant, configured for dual-colour operation and complete with a heavy-duty transfer car.

This high-throughput machine is built for performance and reliability, featuring:

🔹 Hydraulic clamping to keep packs secure inside the autoclave
🔹 Hydraulic tilting for improved recovery of free preservative
🔹 A fully integrated loading system for smooth and efficient operation

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the build, preparation and logistics — including David Watson Transport Ltd for the specialist haulage, and AEM Lifting Ltd for carrying out the offload on site and working alongside the Tweddle Engineering team to position the equipment safely and accurately.
