Before and after. 🔧

This Ø2.2m x 12m timber treatment autoclave came to us in the state you see in the first photo — tired and in need of some TLC.

Stripped back, refurbished, repainted and fully re-piped with new controls, it's now wrapped, craned and loaded for its journey to Australia.

Hats off to the team for another cracking job. 👏

🚧 Our Largest Diameter Autoclave to Date Has Left the Workshop 🚧

A big milestone for the team—our largest diameter autoclave we’ve ever manufactured has officially left the workshop and is on its way to site for IMPREGNA/ Rundvirke Poles AB.

This unit is a Ø3.2m x 22.0m high-pressure treatment autoclave, designed for demanding wood impregnation processes using Bethell & Lowry processes. Specifically engineered for the treatment of poles and sleepers, it’s built to handle large-scale industrial requirements.

From heavy-duty fabrication to precision engineering, this project has been a real team effort—showcasing the skill, experience, and attention to detail across the business.

Key highlights:
▪️ 22-metre length with a 179m³ capacity
▪️ Manufactured from 20mm thick steel
▪️ Designed for pressures from -1barg up to +14barg
▪️ Fully integrated hydraulic door system

Seeing projects of this scale leave the workshop is always a proud moment. Now onto installation and commissioning.

🔧 Tray Replacement & Rail Track Upgrade 🔧

Maintaining critical infrastructure in wood treatment and timber impregnation plants is essential for safe, efficient, and reliable operations.

We recently completed a full tray replacement and rail track upgrade, delivering a 21-metre heavy-duty solution designed to improve performance, durability, and day-to-day reliability within a demanding industrial environment.

The Challenge

In wood treatment plants, components such as rail track trays and handling systems are constantly exposed to heavy loads, moisture, chemicals, and long-term wear. Over time, this can lead to corrosion, misalignment, and reduced efficiency—impacting both safety and productivity.

The Solution

We designed, manufactured, and installed a robust replacement system tailored to the existing plant setup. The upgrade included:

▪️ 5mm thick mild steel construction for increased strength
▪️ Precision folding to match existing rail profiles
▪️ Corrosion-resistant coating suited to harsh environments
▪️ Improved tray design to enhance fluid recovery and durability

Installation Process

A full turnkey approach ensured minimal disruption:

• Removal of existing tray and preparation of the base structure
• Installation of the new 21-metre rail track tray system
• Reinstallation and refurbishment of existing rails and walkways
• Alignment checks and commissioning to ensure smooth, safe operation

Key Outcomes

This upgrade has delivered:

✔️ Improved operational safety✔️ Increased reliability of handling systems✔️ Enhanced resistance to corrosion✔️ Reduced downtime and maintenance issues✔️ Longer service life of the installation

A straightforward but critical upgrade that helps keep production running smoothly and efficiently.

If you’re experiencing wear issues, handling problems, or looking to modernise existing equipment, we’re always happy to discuss practical upgrade and replacement solutions.

We’re proud to feature in the latest Wood Protection Association “Spotlight On” article, highlighting the critical role engineering plays in ensuring effective, consistent and compliant timber treatment.

As the WPA rightly points out, preservative performance is only part of the story — plant design, process control and engineering expertise are what make that performance achievable in practice. At Timber Treatment Solutions (TTS), that’s exactly where we focus: delivering bespoke systems that help our clients get treatment right, every time.

📍 And we’re looking forward to continuing that conversation in person at the **WPA Awards & Conference 2026**.

📅 **6–7 May 2026**
📍 **Oulton Hall Hotel, near Leeds**

You’ll find us at the event as part of the **wood treatment plant and equipment displays**, a great opportunity to explore the latest developments in timber treatment technology and discuss how engineering innovation supports quality, safety and sustainability across the sector

If you’re attending, come and speak to the TTS team — we’d be delighted to connect.

Over the past decade, we’ve continuously refined and improved the Excalibur R900 🔧

From the very first machine—still in operation today and having processed over 15 million posts—to the latest systems we’re delivering, every update has been driven by real-world performance, operator feedback, and smarter engineering.

We’ve also expanded the range — now including the R1200 for diameters up to Ø275mm, giving customers even greater flexibility across applications.

Here’s how the R900 has evolved:

• Quick-release cleaner system – change cleaners in minutes with just 4 bolts, reducing downtime and labour
• Auto-compensating cylinder control – delivering smoother, more consistent operation
• Fully automated setup – touchscreen-controlled pressure & height adjustment for fast, accurate changeovers
• Enhanced lift system – robust, precise, and designed for long-term reliability with simplified maintenance
• Next-gen touchscreen interface – intuitive controls with anti-jam support, quick-release functionality, and size-specific settings

The result?

✔ Greater efficiency
✔ Lower maintenance demands
✔ Consistent, reliable performance at scale

This is what continuous improvement looks like in practice — built on experience, proven in operation, and always moving forward.
