It’s been a very busy few months at Southern VSR Ltd. Since getting the keys in January we’ve been non stop on improving the garage to allow more work to be completed and investing in more equipment to cover all aspects of your vehicles maintenance. We are now operating with 3 two post ramps rated for heavy vehicles, with a fourth being fitted imminently, and tyre facilities arriving the coming week, and our new reception/waiting area being ready in just a few weeks

Cambelt job completed on the driveway in Petersfield this week due to it not being safe to get over to the garage.

Sometimes driveway work cannot be avoided and for this customer they could’ve risked overheating due to a faulty water pump if they tried to give it to us so we took the decision to go out to them.

This water pump was well overdue and would’ve been making some noise for quite some time

If your vehicle is making any sort of unusual noise please don’t wait to get it checked as it can cost you a lot more money in the long run

Luckily, for this customer, no engine damage was done and a new water pump and Cambelt later and the vehicle is back on the road.

Here at Southern VSR LTD, we do more than just mechanics — our on-site MIG welder transforms rusty decay into solid, road-ready steel.

A customer from Petersfield brought their Volkswagen T4 campervan to the garage with severe corrosion to the nearside rear panel. Despite the deterioration, the panel would not be considered an MOT failure. However, upon the customer’s request, we took action. We cut away the corrosion to expose stronger steel further up the panel, creating a solid surface to weld to.

We prioritise attention to detail, working in stages to contour every curve and edge to achieve a precise panel replication. Matching the original bodywork meant fabricating a double-skinned section with a lower lip for accurate bumper alignment, ensuring long-term durability.

Each weld was purposefully placed to fuse the panel into one solid piece. Cooling the material between each spot weld eliminated heat distortion while maintaining proper MIG pe*******on.

The repair was finalised by grinding back the high points and lightly coating seam sealer over the welds. This resulted in a smooth, sturdy finish, with added protection against moisture ingress. The panel was then prepped and painted to match the original blue.

Here at Southern VSR Ltd in Harting, Petersfield, we had an Audi A3 Cabaret in the workshop today. This Audi A3 Cabaret came to for a cambelt replacement, manufacturers recommend the replacement of a cambelt every 60,000 or 6 years, whichever comes first.
The cambelt (also known as a timing belt) synchronizes the rotation of an engine's camshaft (top of the engine) and crankshaft (the bottom of the engine), ensuring the valves open and close at precisely the correct time while the pistons move up and down. Over time, timing belts can slip, crack, stretch or loose teeth, leading to incorrect valve timing, misfiring, and loss of power. If the belt completely snaps, it can damage the pistons, valves or cylinder head and lead to complete engine failure.

Today in Petersfield, we received a Ford Focus 1.0l EcoBoost that initially came in with a stiff gear change, which we diagnosed the issue as a worn clutch and successfully replaced. During our inspection, however, the vehicles age, mileage and limited service history raised concerns.

With customer approval we carried out a wet belt inspection and found the belt to be perished and deteriorating. Wet belts are a timing belt that synchronises the crankshaft and camshaft inside the engine and is lubricated by engine oil. Manufactures introduced this design to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. Over time the belt can degrade causing rubber to circulate in the oil which can lead to low oil pressure and serious engine damage. Manufacturers specification guidelines recommend replacement of the wet belt at 60,000 miles or 6 years, whichever comes first. This Ford Focus 1.0l EcoBoost came to us with a mileage of 95,000 and service history only dating up to 2021.

Unfortunately for this customer, there brake pads on the rear wore too much where the backing plate scratched the disc.

Everything else on this vehicle passed inspection. So a new set of discs and pads for this customer and they were back on the road again.

We are very competitive on price and when it comes to braking systems, we only use quality, tried and tested parts.

We also warranty all parts for 1 year, unlimited mileage if the part was to become faulty.

Today’s job.
A cambelt & waterpump for this Volkswagen Crafter 2.0 TDI 2017 on 160,000 miles.

This cambelt was definitely due, the waterpump bearing was completely shot.

If this had failed, it’s very likely this engine would have overheated.

All bearings, idler rollers and studs are replaced when we do the cambelt on any vehicle.

All parts used were from Volkswagen themselves. Do a job right, not twice. And you will be suprised the price difference isn’t all that much considering the quality you receive.

We were called out to a local farm today to replace the front discs and pads on this 2018 Isuzu. The pads were run so low it had fallen out of the carrier.

It’s not your most straightforward job on these, the bearings are integrated into the discs. So specialist tools are required.

Whilst they were off we regreased the bearings and adjusted them accordingly.

The vehicle was back on the road within a couple of hours.

There is doing brakes, then there is doing brakes properly.
