❤️ Learning skills, showing respect and making a difference!

Our first year welding and fabrication apprentices have been busy creating something rather special in preparation for Remembrance Day.

Using their developing skills in sheet metalwork, metal forming and MIG welding, they're creating beautiful metal poppies completely from scratch!

But this project is about so much more than engineering skills. It's about understanding the importance of Remembrance Day, showing respect to those who have served and sacrificed, and raising money for the wonderful Royal British Legion. ❤️

We're incredibly proud of our apprentices for putting their skills to such good use!

Engineering runs in the family! 🔧⚙️

Meet Will, a first-year apprentice employed by Express Engineering!
His older brother, Ben, is now in his third year of his apprenticeship, also with Express Engineering.

And their dad, Alan? He's been part of the Express Engineering team for an incredible 20 years, working as a CNC Machinist! 👏

One family, two generations and a shared passion for engineering!

And this is what we love about what we do! For almost 60 years, we've been training the next generation of engineers, working alongside some of the region's best employers to build careers that last.

It's fantastic to see employers like Express Engineering investing in the next generation, with Will and Ben following in their dad's footsteps.

Great training, great employers and careers that span generations. That's what it's all about! 💙

Meet some of our Machining, Fitting and Maintenance Technicians getting stuck in and almost ready for their first formal assessments!

At SETA, it's all about getting hands-on, learning new skills and building confidence! 🔥

With 4 days a week in our workshops and 1 day in the classroom, our apprentices are learning to use industry-standard equipment, solve real engineering problems, work as a team and develop the skills to take they'll apply to their engineering careers.

They'll spend their first 6–9 months with us, making friends, learning from experienced engineers and getting ready to make a real difference when they return to their employers! 🏭
Oh, and they are paid to be here!

We've been helping young people kick-start amazing careers in engineering for almost 60 years, and this year's apprentices are already showing us what they're made of! 👏

💜 Women Empowering Women in Engineering! 👷‍♀️✨

TWO fantastic events this week for Suzanne and Gabi, celebrating, supporting and empowering women in engineering!

We met some incredible women, heard inspiring stories of inclusive workplace cultures and explored the power of coaching, mentoring and positive role models.

We were also joined by some of our amazing female apprentices, who, as always, did themselves and their employers proud! 🌟 Fantastic ambassadors for Seta and the future of engineering!

A huge thank you to EMN and AMF, and hosts Faltec and OsecoElfab, for bringing so many inspiring women together!

From the classroom to inspiring the next generation! 🙌🔧

Our Josh headed back to Hebburn Comprehensive School with three familiar faces – former students and now first-year Seta apprentices! 👏

Finlay, a welding apprentice at Balaena Tyne; Alex, an electrical fitter at Aardvarc Electrical Engineers; and Robbie, an electrical fitter at Protection Installation Services, all came along to help and inspire!

They shared their journeys, from applying for apprenticeships and tackling interviews to getting stuck into their engineering careers. And what a welcome they got! Teachers and students were buzzing to see them back! 💙

This is why apprenticeship ambassadors matter! 💥

There's nothing more inspiring than seeing someone who once sat in your classroom, made the same choices you're facing and is now out there making it happen!

Real people. Real experiences. Real opportunities.

👋 Welcome to Seta’s Class of 2026!

It’s been a busy few weeks for our newest apprentices, inductions completed, toolbox talks underway and, most importantly, they’re hitting the workshop floor!

Our Maintenance, Fitting, Machining, Fabrication and Welding apprentices have started their practical rotations, getting hands-on with the tools, equipment and engineering skills that will form the foundations of their careers.

And this is where the Seta apprenticeship experience really begins.
Our block-release model means our apprentices spend the majority of their first year training with us at Seta. That gives them the time and space to learn by doing, developing practical competence, technical understanding, precision, fault-finding, problem-solving and, importantly, the confidence and engineering judgement to work things out when something doesn’t quite go to plan.

They’ll make mistakes, solve problems, learn from each other, and build confidence...

And there’s another important part of these first few months. They’re starting this journey alongside people who will become teammates, a support network and, in many cases, friends for life. 💙

🚨 Less than 2 weeks to go! 🚨

In just two weeks, our new cohort of first-year apprentices will be starting an exciting new chapter in their lives, and we can’t wait! 🙌

Our second year apprentices will also be returning to continue their journey towards completing their Level 3 Advanced Diplomas, alongside our first and second year HNC students.

Before long, the car park will be full, the workshops will be busy, and our brilliant training facility will once again be full of the energy, enthusiasm and vibrancy that comes with a new academic year. 🔧⚙️

We’re incredibly excited to welcome everyone back and to see our new apprentices get started on their engineering careers. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

👷‍♀️ Another fantastic addition to our apprenticeship and commercial training at Seta 👷‍♂️

One of the best things about having experienced engineers as instructors is that they're always looking for new ways to bring learning to life. Our latest training resource is a perfect example.

A huge well done to our own instructor, Rick, who has designed and built an electrical maintenance fault-finding rig featuring 25 different electrical faults for apprentices to identify and diagnose!

Fault finding is a fundamental skill for electrical or multi-skilled maintenance technician apprentices. It's not just about finding what's wrong, it's about thinking logically, interpreting circuit diagrams, testing safely, and developing the confidence to solve problems efficiently.

By working on this rig during their foundation training, our apprentices can experience a wide range of realistic faults in a safe, controlled environment before they ever step onto an employer's site. That means they arrive in the workplace with a stronger understanding of fault diagnosis, greater confidence using test equipment, and valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for real engineering challenges.

We're incredibly proud of the dedication and innovation our instructors bring to apprentice training. Thanks, Rick, for another brilliant resource that will benefit our apprentices for years to come.
