As Thurston continues to grow, investing in people, skills and leadership capability will play an important role in supporting the future of the business.

We’re pleased to introduce our new Talent, Learning & Development function, created to help build capability, support career progression and strengthen development pathways across Thurston.

Led by Amy Joiner, Head of Talent & Development, with Kane Ford joining as Learning & Development Manager, the function will support a more structured approach to training, onboarding, apprenticeships, leadership development and workforce capability.

The team will play an important role in helping colleagues develop the skills, confidence and support they need to progress, while also helping the business build the capability needed for future growth.

Last week, we shared news of our latest investment at Wakefield. Great to now see the new Combilift multidirectional straddle carrier in action on site.

As activity continues to build, this investment is expected to help unlock additional yard capacity, improve flow through the site and support more efficient dispatch of completed modular units.

It's our belief that strong supply chains are built on more than materials.

They rely on visibility, communication, supplier relationships and teams who understand what the wider business needs to deliver.

As part of our new series, The Teams Behind Thurston, we’re highlighting the role of our Supply Chain & Procurement team and the work being done to improve product availability, strengthen supplier partnerships and support operational resilience across the business.

With the integration of Stores into the wider Supply Chain function, the team is already improving visibility of material demand, improving communication between departments and helping resolve key issues faster.

It’s another example of how we are building the capability, structure and partnerships needed to support future growth.

This week, we welcomed team members from Wernick Group Limited Ltd to our Wakefield facility for a collaborative technical learning session focused on fire safety, compliance and the practical application of standards such as JCoP.

Bringing together health & safety professionals, design managers and depot teams, the day combined technical presentations with a factory tour, providing a behind-the-scenes look at how design, engineering and manufacturing come together to deliver safe, compliant and reliable modular solutions.

The session also created valuable opportunities for discussion and knowledge sharing, helping both organisations learn from each other's experience and better understand the challenges faced throughout the product lifecycle.

When a complex project demands a partner proven to deliver, Thurston is brought in.

We recently manufactured and installed three payment kiosk units at Waterloo Station, working alongside SIS Projects UK as principal contractor.

The challenge centred on planning, access and delivery within a live station environment. Access was heavily restricted, space within the concourse was tight, and installation could only take place during a narrow overnight window when the station was closed to the public.

Close collaboration between our factory and site teams was critical, ensuring the units arrived with the minimum amount of work required on site. This reduced risk during installation and simplified delivery within the tight overnight window.
