We do hydraulic repair jobs others walk away from. And we're proud of it.

Our customer had a problem. Their hydraulic power unit developed an oil leak traced back to a cracked steel manifold in the main control block.

The manifold was bespoke.

They went back to the OEM. Long lead times. IP restrictions. A dead end.

Then they called us.

Our design and workshop hydraulic engineers put their heads together and got to work. Using an assembly of standard manifolds with a couple of carefully considered modifications we engineered, built, tested, and returned a fully working solution.

In 6 working days.

The HPU also received a full clean and service while it was with us.

Two 3kW Hydraulic Power Units pictured heading into the marine sector!

These units were manufactured for a ship, where they'll be doing an important job: actuating large 9" mains water valves on board. Not a task you want to get wrong.

A few things we're particularly pleased with on this build:

🔷 Fully integrated into the vessel's control system for normal automated operation
🔷 Manual lever override as standard, so if mains power is lost, the valves can still be operated locally. On a ship, that kind of failsafe isn't optional, it's essential.
🔷 Stainless steel tanks, because marine environments aren't kind to mild steel

It's one of those builds that reminds you why good hydraulic design matters. Electronics fail, power goes down, but a well-engineered HPU with a manual override keeps things moving when it counts.

Most hydraulic systems rely on accumulators working perfectly

Yet they're often the last thing to get attention until something goes wrong.

At Hedley Hydraulics, our dedicated accumulator service centre takes care of everything.

Full strip down, inspection, bladder testing, seal replacement, shell NDT, hydrostatic pressure testing to BS EN 18119:2018 and every job is fully documented with a Pressure Test Certificate and Certificate of Conformity.

You get it back marked, tracked, tested, and ready to work.

Precision Hydraulic System Built for a Plasterboard Press Application.

We just completed the design and build of a bespoke hydraulic system comprised of a HPU and a set of cylinders for a plasterboard press, and it’s a great example of engineering tailored to a very specific application.

The system is engineered for rapid response and consistent pressure/flow control, supported by an accumulator arrangement that maintains stability throughout each cycle. This ensures smooth operation and prevents pressure drop during high‑demand phases of the press.

A key feature of this build is the integration of a manifold‑mounted cylinder assembly with proportional control and a transducer. This combination provides highly accurate positional control. The transducer allows the cylinder to be set to a precise stroke length, giving the customer repeatable, controlled movement, exactly what’s required for their plasterboard production process.

Projects like this highlight the value of working closely with the end user: understanding the application, designing around the challenges, and delivering a system that performs reliably from the first press cycle.
