Cathedral Vehicle Services is growing, and with our ever-expanding customer base and workload, we’re on the lookout for a skilled Vehicle Technician to join our team.

About the role:
We are ideally looking for someone with plenty of hands-on experience and Level 3 qualifications.
An MOT qualification would be a bonus, but it’s not essential for the right candidate.

✔️ Strong mechanical knowledge and experience

Yet another wet belt replacement completed recently. This time on a Peugeot 208 1.2. This vehicle had only covered 62,000 but as you can see the strainer was already starting to block with fragments of the timing belt.

Dan, my business partner, timing chain master & all round nice guy has finished off another crazy busy week doing a complex timing chain replacement this lovely Audi TT. It came into us with a strange noise in behind the timing chain cover so he set to work stripping down to carry out the job. Along the way he found a known problem, failure of a mesh gauze on the camshaft bearing bracket. This then allows the ball bearing behind to escape which is known to cause catastrophic engine failure. Luckily for this customer the ball bearing was holding on dear life 🫣

Full timing chain kit done and running like a dream ✅

It came into us with a strange noise in behind the timing chain cover so he set to work stripping down to carry out the job. Yet another timing chain job😅 but this time not such a simple diagnosis 🤓. This van came in with poor starting and fault lights on the dash but once it got running, drove fine. Initial diagnostics came up with cam shaft sensor faults. We used an oscilloscope to test the output of the sensor to find a good signal. We then compared the signals from the crankshaft and camshaft sensors together to find they weren't perfectly matched, consistent with the symptoms of a timing issue. We then carried out the big job of gaining access checking the physical timing using the correct locking set to find the engine was indeed out of time as we had suspected, due to a failing timing chain tensioner.
We then carried out a full timing chain kit change and hey presto 🪄 now starting perfectly with no faults!
