As part of our ongoing commitment to continuous process improvement, we have designed a new witness part tester. This was a collaboration between the Physics and Electronics teams at MSL and, to date, our most recent Physics recruit – Joshua Trimmer – has re-tested 2764 witness rings using this test jig. The reproducibility is very impressive, even for the highly demanding Magnetic Quality Control team.

Due to increasing workloads, it became essential to invest in equipment that would prevent the flat sheet cutting process from becoming a production bottleneck. To address this, we made a strategic decision to invest in a state-of-the-art Bystronic Group Bysmart system— a fully automated sheet storage and cutting solution. This significant upgrade has transformed our output capabilities, dramatically improving overall factory efficiency which offers a potential competitive edge in the market. Additionally, to reduce ongoing operational costs and ensure the project's self-sufficiency, we have installed an on-site nitrogen production plant to supply the laser system.

MSL has successfully delivers shielded room for paleogeological use to the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

Paleogeology is the study of how the Earth looked in the distant past, how continents shifted, oceans formed, and mountains rose, using evidence from ancient rocks and fossils.

The customer, Prof. Dr. Derya Gürer, was very pleased with the result. After the installation, she shared the following message: “Thanks to the entire MSL team for the efficient building phase. We are happy with the shield—particularly its shielding capacity!” She will use the shielded room to measure the magnetic properties of rock samples, revealing what Earth’s magnetic field looked like when those rocks formed.
