📢 Have you seen the DVSA’s revised guidance on who can maintain play detectors?

Published via the MOT Testing Guide on 13th November, this update expands the list of professionals allowed to maintain your ATL and OPTL wheel and steering play detectors (shaker plates) to:

✅ Manufacturers
✅ Manufacturer’s agents
✅ Suitably qualified maintenance engineers
✅ Calibration specialists

🔧 Service intervals remain the same:
✅ Pneumatic equipment – every 6 months
✅ Hydraulic equipment – every 12 months

📄 Paperwork still required after each visit:
✅ A maintenance report (including any remedial work)
✅ A signed & dated declaration confirming the equipment is in good working order

What Does This Mean for Your MOT Station?
It remains essential that your steering and suspension play detectors are serviced at the correct intervals by a suitably qualified garage equipment engineer and that the correct documentation is provided after every maintenance visit.
