🔴⚫ MATCH REPORT | HGLFC First Team vs Fleetwood Wren Reserves ⚫🔴
Both sides started the game cautiously, with Haslingden forced into early changes after injuries to Meg Rodriguez following a nasty tackle, and later to Madi Purdy and Sarah Ashton. Despite the setbacks, Nell Edmondson and Ella McGrorey showed their attacking intent in the final third, but Haslingden couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Fleetwood began to pile on the pressure, but much like Haslingden, they couldn’t convert their chances. Player of the Match Ellie Stuart was immense at the back, making life incredibly difficult for the Fleetwood attackers. The few questions asked of the defence were confidently answered by goalkeeper Emily Salt.
New signing and former Fleetwood player Gabby Johnson impressed with her energy and creativity, carving out opportunities but Haslingden just couldn’t find the finish. As the game wore on, Haslingden grew into the contest, and with captain Kerry Reeves alongside Jess Harrison standing strong at the back, the Reds looked more dangerous with every attack.
With ten minutes left, the breakthrough finally came. Who else but Madi Purdy, firing Haslingden in front with a superbly taken finish after some clever build-up play. The momentum was with the Reds, and moments later a second followed – somewhat fortunate, but nothing less than what Meg Rodriguez deserved for her determination and hard work throughout.
A gutsy performance, and a fully deserved 2–0 win for Haslingden.

📣 Manager Sam Dawson said:
“Today showed what we’re about – resilience, togetherness, and belief. Even with the early injuries and changes, the girls dug deep, stayed patient, and trusted in our game. The quality shone through in the end and we earned that win. I’m incredibly proud of them. We’ll enjoy this result tonight, but the focus quickly turns to next week’s FA Cup clash against Preston North End – a huge opportunity that we’re really looking forward to.”
