Ask your chimney sweep what happens when the lead rod fails mid-flue.

Cheap rod systems reuse the same white lead rod every sweep. It takes all the strain, weakens over time, then snaps inside the chimney.

SnapLok kits rotate every rod through that job. No single weak point. No white lead rod, by design.

That's the question worth asking before you book anyone. 🧹

Questions to ask before you book a chimney sweep

Not all chimney sweeps turn up with the same kit, and that matters more than most homeowners think to check.

Ask what rod system they use. Rotary rods with a proper dual-button lock, like SnapLok, connect securely and won't disengage mid-clean, which means a cleaner sweep and less risk of a rod snapping off in your flue.

Ask whether they're using rotary equipment at all, or just a manual brush. Rotary heads, whips and mole brushes reach tar, creosote and old bird nests that manual brushes often can't shift properly.

Ask what they do about dust. A sweep using a proper vacuum system, such as SootDevil, keeps soot out of your living room rather than leaving a film over your furniture.

Ask if they've trained specifically on the equipment they're carrying, not just sweeping in general.

What's the one question you'd want a sweep to answer honestly before they start work in your home? 🧹

No white lead rod. That's deliberate.

Most kits wear out one rod fast because it always leads. The SnapLok Max Power Kit rotates all 45 metres of rod through the job, so no single rod takes the punishment every sweep.

90cm lengths on the 8mm-12mm rods, quadruple-crimped ferrules on the rest, stainless buttons throughout. Full liner and open flue coverage, connects in under 30 seconds.

Free SnapLok training course included with purchase. 🧹

The complete SnapLok kit sweeps that saves you buying twice

45 metres of rods, over a dozen heads and brushes, and free training thrown in. That's what's in the SnapLok Max Power Kit, and it's built to cover every job that lands in your van.

The 8mm, 10mm and 12mm rods are 90cm rather than longer, because thinner rods at greater length lose rigidity and cause liner slap. That's what snaps rods at the ferrule on cheaper systems. SnapLok's don't, thanks to quadruple crimped fittings and heat-treated, double-plated steel.

You get the 5" Rapid Light Loader, the 9" Bullet Whip Head, Mini Mole brushes for liners down to 4", and the 24" DeathStar Whip Head for open flues. Tar and bird nests are covered too, with a Chain Whip and Nest Buster.

There's deliberately no dedicated lead rod. Rotating all the rods means none takes all the wear and fails early.

Buy the kit and you're entitled to a free SnapLok equipment training course at our centre in Tiverton. Worth asking yourself: is your current setup actually kitted out for every flue you're likely to face this year?

A year in, and PJ Sweeps still calls the SootDevil the most powerful vacuum he's owned.

The RPV-25TX: twin motor, flat base, individual switches, built to take a proper daily hammering.

Customers notice it too. "Good looking piece of kit" isn't the compliment sweeps usually get on the job.

Filters and spares, always in stock. That's the bit that keeps it working past year one. 🔧

A year on, this vacuum still isn't slowing down

One of our customers, PJ Sweeps, has been running the SootDevil RPV-25TX for a full year now, and it's holding up better than anything he used before it.

It's the twin motor, flat based model with individual switches, so he can run one motor or both depending on the job.

He rates it as the most powerful vacuum he's owned. Customers notice it too, more than one has called it a "good looking piece of kit" on the job.

Filters and spares have stayed available the whole time he's had it, which matters more than most sweeps expect until they're stuck without one.

What's the oldest bit of kit in your van that's still earning its keep? 🧹

Sharp bends in a flue shouldn't mean forcing your rods and hoping nothing snaps.

The SnapLok 10" Spring Leader takes the strain out of awkward flue runs, flexing round tight bends instead of fighting them.

Built for 8mm and 10mm rods, it saves your kit and your back on the jobs that usually chew through both.

Less resistance, less wear, more control where it matters. 🔧

Get round tight bends without punishing your rods

Awkward bends in a flue shouldn't mean forcing rods or risking a snap mid-sweep.

The SnapLok 10" Spring Leader is built for exactly that problem. It flexes through tight offsets and awkward chimney runs while taking the strain off the rest of your rod set.

Fittings are sized for 8mm and 10mm rods, so it slots straight into your existing SnapLok setup with no adapters or workarounds needed.

Less stress on your kit means fewer replacements and a smoother sweep, especially on those properties every sweep knows will fight you all the way up.

What's the worst bend you've had to fight through this year?
