A Little Behind the Scenes at Mid-Devon Lawnmowers...

Most people know Matt for keeping lawnmowers, ride-ons and garden machinery running smoothly, but when he's not in the workshop, you'll often find him on two wheels rather than four! 🏍️

On Sunday, Matt was competing at the Gillingham Scramble and had a brilliant day out. He finished 8th overall in his class, with no breakdowns, no crashes, and plenty of fun along the way.

It's always good to make time for a hobby, and motocross is Matt's way of switching off from the day job. We thought we'd share a little glimpse of what he gets up to when he's not busy helping customers and fixing machines.

Of course, it's now Monday morning, and it's straight back to work! The bikes are parked up, the tools are back out, and it's business as usual at Mid-Devon Lawnmowers. 😄

🔎 WHERE’S MATT? — THE GROUNDSFEST EDITION! 😂🌱

Following our previous report from Groundsfest 2026, the office has been asking some serious questions…

Where exactly was Matt all day? 🤔

He was sent to Groundsfest with one very simple job:

📸 Photograph the latest machinery
📸 Get some shots of the Kress, Cobra, Henton & Chattell stands
📸 Bring back some fantastic content for Mid Devon Lawnmowers

And yet somehow… the office got virtually nothing. 😂

So, naturally, we’ve had to investigate.

We’ve searched the Groundsfest crowds, checked the stands, scanned the machinery displays and even resorted to creating our very own “Where’s Wally?” — Mid Devon Lawnmowers edition!

We’re not saying he spent the day hiding amongst the machinery…

But we’re also not saying he didn’t. 🤣

🤦‍♂️ GROUNDSFEST 2026 – THE REPORT FROM MATT & TED

Last week, Matt and Ted were sent to Groundsfest 2026 with one simple task:

📸 Take photos of the fantastic new machinery from Kress, Cobra, Henton & Chattell and the many other manufacturers exhibiting.

A straightforward mission.

Well... Matt returned with precisely ZERO photos of any machinery. Not one mower. Not one robot. Not one shiny new product.

Faced with the prospect of having no Groundsfest content whatsoever, the office team had no choice but to create their own "exclusive" image

So, while we can't show you the latest kit from Groundsfest, we can confirm:
✔️ The atmosphere was brilliant
✔️ The stands were packed
✔️ The manufacturers had some exciting new products on display
✔️ Matt may need closer supervision on future trips

"Autumn mowing is a little different from the middle of summer.

As growth slows and conditions become wetter, avoid forcing a cut when the lawn is saturated and keep an eye on the build-up of wet grass underneath the mower.

Before carrying out any cleaning or checks yourself, make sure the machine is safely switched off and follow the manufacturer instructions for your model.

A few sensible habits at the end of the season can make life much easier when the mower comes back out properly next year.

🍂🌱 SEPTEMBER LAWN CARE – TIME TO SCARIFY! 🌱🍂

September is one of the best months of the year to give your lawn some attention. With warm soil and autumn rain returning, your grass has ideal conditions to recover from summer and put down strong roots before winter.

🍃 WHY SCARIFY YOUR LAWN?

Over the summer, lawns can build up a layer of thatch, moss, dead grass and other organic material around the base of the grass.

Too much thatch can prevent water, air and nutrients from reaching the soil and grass roots.

Scarifying helps to remove this unwanted material, opening up the lawn and allowing new growth to come through.
