The May winner of JGC's best Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) award is Steve Osborne. Steve is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Stephen Sutherland.

There was a really high standard and amount of OFI’s raised in May and several were in the running but it’s been decided that Steve’s OFI was the best!

The OFI raised the fact that we were using a lot of time chasing supplier Certificates of Conformity for quality record packs. Not only did Steve raise the issue but he worked with others in the team to provide a solution to ensure that certificates are received and saved directly into the contract files.

Major investment at our Harpsdale Facility.

JGC have this week completed a major investment in our corrosion protection facility in Harpsdale with the inclusion of a highly efficient dust extraction system for the blast bays.

The KUBE Hi-Flow Dust extract system has a capacity of 28,000 m3/hr. This system extracts from within the shot blast booth, collecting the dust within a filtration system and exhausting clean air.

This ensures the best environment for our operators whilst also protecting the environment.

Corrosion protection of the steelwork we manufacture is hugely important to our clients, and the standards and longevity of duration of protection increases year on year, so we are delighted that we can demonstrate that we maintain a state of the art facility to provide a service to our clients well into the future.

The April winner of JGC's best Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) award is Andrew Edwards.

Andrew is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Robbie Campbell. His winning OFI was raised after he identified and reported a paint spillage in the yard, which occurred while paint tins were being compacted for waste disposal. The spillage was cleaned up and no paint entered the site drainage system, preventing any environmental impact.

The March winner of JGC's best OFI (Opportunity For Improvement) was awarded to Liam Sutherland.
Liam (right) is pictured here receiving his certificate and voucher from Director Robbie Campbell (left). Liam noticed that certificates supplied with new slings had incorrect serial numbers on them and they didn't match the serial numbers on the slings. There were several slings with similar serial numbers, and the supplier had mixed them up. By spotting this, Liam helped us avoid inaccurate safety records.

Congratulations to our newly qualified tradesmen, James Dunnett, Michael Swanson, Craig Mowat and Dan Mowat. Each of them have shown dedication, skill and an impressive work ethic throughout their training. They've contributed to major projects, demonstrated strong technical ability and become valued members of the team.

At JGC, we're proud to celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week by recognising an important, milestone for four of our talented apprentices, who have all officially completed their apprenticeships and taken the next step in their careers as fully qualified Tradesmen in the last year.

A message from Director John Campbell: “Our apprentices are the future of JGC and seeing them reach this milestone is something we are all extremely proud of. Scottish Apprenticeship Week is about recognising the value apprentices bring to workplaces across the country and at JGC, we see that value every single day.”

Apprenticeships have always been at the heart of JGC. For over 45 years, we've believed strongly in investing in young people, and providing real opportunities to develop skills, confidence, and long-term careers within engineering. Many of our management team, including directors began their journeys as apprentices.

We very much appreciate the public support in Thurso by keeping the route clear of vehicles. The last of the large loads will be moved on Thursday 5th February.
