The September winner of JGC’s best Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) award is Gordon Smith. Gordon is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Stephen Sutherland.

Gordon identified a significant cost-saving opportunity by reducing the amount of electricity supply meters we have across the facility. Combining several buildings onto one electricity supply will reduce fixed supplier charges. Gordon is also leading negotiations with the supplier to help turn his proposal into reality.

Our OFI (Opportunity For Improvement) of the month for August has been won by Jamie Mowat. Jamie is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Stephen Sutherland. Jamie raised a concern over our hand held radio’s we use for blind operation communications. He noticed that there was momentary third-party interference on the frequency, and operations were halted immediately. Wrong instructions could have resulted in a wrong operation being performed, stopping the work was the correct action to take. As a result of this we are now investigating dedicated frequency hand held radios to ensure this cannot happen again. Well done Jamie!

The July winner of JGC’s best Opportunity for Improvement (OFI) award is Alan Miller. Alan is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Stephen Sutherland.

Alan’s suggestion was to install a solvent recovery process in our paint shop. This improvement will greatly reduce the amount of spent thinners sent to special waste, lower the paint shops Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations risk rating and reduce operatives exposure to noxious fumes. It will also contribute to our business carbon reduction plan.

JGC apprentices Rachel Mathieson and Dino Miceli built this custom stand for the Caithness County Show Flower Committee, helping celebrate 60 years of the Flower Tent at the show.

A fantastic piece of work and a great example of apprentices using their skills to support the local community.

Well done to everyone involved, and congratulations to the Flower Committee on reaching this incredible milestone.

The June winner of JGC's best Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) award is Jamie Mowat. Jamie is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Alan Sutherland.

Jamie highlighted that when our new press brake and roll machine were installed, only a small number of operators received the training, as much of the team was on client sites. This OFI resulted in the trainer returning to deliver further training when more team members where available. The training has now been delivered, increasing the number of qualified operators and giving us more flexibility across our teams.

The May winner of JGC's best Opportunity For Improvement (OFI) award is Steve Osborne. Steve is pictured receiving his certificate and voucher from Stephen Sutherland.

There was a really high standard and amount of OFI’s raised in May and several were in the running but it’s been decided that Steve’s OFI was the best!

The OFI raised the fact that we were using a lot of time chasing supplier Certificates of Conformity for quality record packs. Not only did Steve raise the issue but he worked with others in the team to provide a solution to ensure that certificates are received and saved directly into the contract files.
