The last visitor at Green Roof today was beautiful Poppy the Tibetan terrier x poodle! Poppy is a lovely girl who loves a good snuggle and a few treats on her break, and when we are done. Obviously, there's been no breaks in the garden today! ☔️ Instead Poppy had a little drink and a good fuss on the blanket. 🥰

The next visitor at Green Roof today was pretty cavachon, Nala! This lovely girl was looking a bit soggy when she arrived. She was a bit put out because she must have felt like she'd already had a shower! 🌧️ Luckily, the groom room has been a warm sanctuary from the awful weather today. Nala is such a sweet, lovely girl! I'm sure she's busy snuggling at home with her human sisters now. 🥰

My largest visitor, Kodi the Romanian Miriotic shepherd dog, came to visit me at Green Roof today! Kodi is a gentle giant. He's truly lovely. Kodi has some mobility issues and prefers to lie down for as much of his groom as he can. I like to get him off the table as soon as we are done so he can rest. As you can imagine, it's a long groom for him. Isn't he absolutely gorgeous?!

I'm posting this again because my views haven't changed. I still disagree with noisy fireworks going on for, what has become, weeks on end. I worry about my own dogs, everyone else's pets, the animals in shelters, the wildlife, people who are upset by loud noises etc. 🥺💚💚💚

Personally, I'm dreading Bonfire Night (week, month - whatever!). I've read all the arguments for having silent fireworks or not having them at all and I totally agree. I then read all the comments arguing for them and they honestly hurt my heart.
One argument for fireworks is always, you should desensitise your dog. We did. Milo wasn't bothered by them at all. We took him for walks so he could watch them going off and he was fine!
Now he's an old boy, things have changed. Last year, for the first time, he was terrified. We didn't expect it. It had never happened before so we were unprepared. He shook, hyperventilated and drooled all night while my husband held him tightly until they stopped. Then, he was exhausted. The next night, because it was more convenient for some people, it started again. Poor Milo. This went on for over a week. Also, how can we desensitise wildlife? It's a heartless argument.
Another argument is, we want our children to enjoy the fireworks. It's selfish to take away their fun. I would rather have my children be kind and care about animals than have one evening of entertainment from bright lights and unnecessary noise. Is a child smiling for one evening really worth the lives of wildlife? Is it really worth someone losing their beloved pet to a heart attack through fear? I'd say that's selfish, especially when quieter ones are available.
If it was just organised events, it wouldn't help the poor wildlife but at least people could protect their pets but this isn't the case. A house on the street behind ours had fireworks so loud, they shook our windows last year. Im absolutely dreading it this year. We have lots of advice from a behaviourist to help protect Milo from the stress which we will follow but I can't stop them for him.
I hope all the dogs, cats and wildlife get through this period of time that is fun for some and absolutely terrifying for them. 💚💚💚

The last visitor at Green Roof today was gorgeous Bowie who came for his regular bath and de-shed! Bowie brought his dad and his human brother along to say hello too. They both accompanied Bowie on his first visit, back when he was in the care of Homeless Hounds - Dogs In Need! At that appointment, he decided they were the family he had been waiting for and that was that! He is a very happy, very loved boy!

The first visitors at Green Roof today were handsome brothers, Buddy the shihtzu x and Ralphy the cavapoochon (cavalier x poodle x bichon)! Buddy can be a bit anxious around his appointments but he did so well today. After his groom, he gave me lots of kisses, went on a mad rampage with the toys (all of them!) and then fell asleep on the blanket! He's a snorer! 😂 Ralphy lay down and watched his brother have his tidy-up and then took his own groom in his stride. He was incredibly brave and had his dew claws clipped with no fuss at all. He's another affectionate boy who likes to give kisses and be snuggled. 🥰

The last visitor at Green Roof today was adorable cockerpoo, Chewie! This boy is always a bit anxious when he arrives but he settles quickly and he looks forward to his break. He loves to stand up, with his paws on the table and watch me get his things ready for his pick up! It's so cute! Isn't he a handsome chap?!
