The 3 Discovery 4s in the first couple of photos have a combined mileage of nearly 600,000 miles between them.

All of them nearly coming up to 200,000 a piece and getting used how they should.

The Green 11 plate sold before hitting the website, what we do like about this sort of mileage is that the consumables that always tend to go between 100-150k have generally already been done (brakes, lower arms, wheel bearings, bushes, suspension bags, air compressor etc) so that means the next owners get a very well maintained car.

Engine reliability, good if they’ve been used, they don’t like short trips, they don’t like school runs, they like being put to work… mostly.

Breaking down this N57 engine which was in a car we bought to sell (ran ok) we decided to do a timing chain and turbo as part of our high levels of pre sale prep before they go out to customers (amazingly didn’t actually show any warning signs) but on rocker cover removal we discovered this…

Do you?
Option A: Send rocker cover on and pretend you didn’t see it?
Option B: Full strip down, clean and rebuild with new consumables, chain and turbo and any oil contaminated part.

Note: yes this engine may have been fine for years to come the bearings genuinely looked in superb condition, but imagine if you had bought a car and it looked like this inside… not ideal.

Couple of Range Rover SDV8 engines going through at the workshop, this might go against every single forum post out there but seen many more unhappy V8s thanks the V6s on a lot less mileage also…

Anyway … one of these has a cracked piston, the other has spun a main and big end on journal #1-5 , which is a massive shame as the engine itself is a fantastic engine providing a lot of torque and good fuel efficiency for what you get.

Straight out the hot wash with cylinder temps around 50 degrees, showing over 0.070mm of expansion from our room temperature measurements.

Awesome to measure and see the expansion directly.

We’ve completely rebuilt this tired and leaky Porsche 911 3.0 SC flat 6 to a short stroke 3.2 with 964 camshafts.

We’ve had multiple S65s in over the recent months for rebuilds because of injector failures.

With no serviceable fuel filter on these cars they are very susceptible to injector failure which can be ultimately lead to engine failure.

Most of the time it bends the rods, forcing the piston into the cylinder walls and that’s that. Larger damage can occur from debris starving bearings or making contact with valves.

This one will require oversize pistons or liners depending on which route the customer wants to go down.

E46 M3 getting some restorative work…

The usual recipe here, rusty inner arches and some strengthening required on the boot floor, this one is also getting a full external respray to top it off.

Is and will be a very lovely M3!
