Sometimes, it’s the smallest details that make the biggest difference. 🔧

A recent batch of brackets fabricated here at The Fab Shack — with a small addition to the manufacturing process that helped us work a whole lot smarter.

We added micro tabs to keep the parts connected during manufacture, allowing us to process multiple brackets together more efficiently rather than handling each component individually.

Once the fabrication work was complete, the tabs could simply be broken away and the individual brackets finished off.

Sometimes, it’s just about finding a better way to make the part. 👌

A bespoke stainless steel water spout, taken from technical drawings through to finished fabrication.

The drawings show where it started. The final photos show where it ended up.

There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing a bespoke fabrication go from lines on a drawing to a finished product in situ.

Not a bad way to start the week… although we’re under no illusion that the British sunshine has any intention of sticking around. 😂

We’ve featured both of these materials recently, so we thought we’d put them next to each other for a proper comparison.

🔹 0.7mm PE25
Lightweight, flexible and ideal for flashings, tiles and more intricate folded work.

🔹 2mm Galv DX51D Z275
Thicker, tougher and one of our most commonly used materials for channels, brackets and fabricated components.

The photos really show just how much difference 1.3mm can make when it comes to sheet metal.

One material. A huge range of possibilities.

We’ve just taken delivery of a HUGE batch of 0.7mm PE25 — one of the materials we use regularly here at The Fab Shack.

The photos show just how versatile it can be.

From small flat plates with safety edges, to standard angle flashings, right through to large tiles — all manufactured from the same 0.7mm material.

Different sizes. Different profiles. Same starting point.

It’s a good example of what we do every day: taking a simple flat sheet and turning it into exactly what the customer needs.

Although judging by the size of this delivery, we’ll be doing quite a lot of that over the next few weeks! 😅

⭐Same purpose. Very different proportions. ⭐

A nice example of the variety coming through the workshop this week — two aluminium brackets, very different in size and specification.

The larger brackets are manufactured from 5mm aluminium, while the smaller brackets are produced from 3mm aluminium. All now ready to head out to a local company — always good to see local businesses keeping work local. 🙌

Different sizes, different requirements, but the same attention to accuracy and finish throughout.

No gentle easing into the week here…

Affectionately known as the heartbeat of The Fab Shack - the punch is up and running, doing what it does best. 💥

There’s something satisfying about starting the week with the machines running, metal moving through the workshop and production well underway.

Although the heartbeat does get noticeably faster when someone asks:

“Any chance you can squeeze this one in today?” 👀

Our yard got a little busier today... 👀

A fresh delivery of powder coated flashings has landed, and there's something very satisfying about seeing hours of fabrication come back looking this good. Now it's time for the team to get them sorted, packed and out of the door to site.

A huge thank you to Plastic Coatings for another cracking job and the excellent service, as always. 👏

Don't worry... the beautiful classic VW Beetle isn't part of the order. She just couldn't resist sneaking into the photo. 🚗😉

Back to the important stuff. Lots of flashings, lots of projects moving forward, and another busy week at The Fab Shack. 💪

🛞Keeping History Turning 🛞

Well this one was a little different from our usual fabrication work.
We recently fabricated a set of replacement buckets for an 1860s mill that has been converted to an electric turbine, generating renewable energy to help power local homes.
The original cast iron buckets had reached the end of their life, so we manufactured new replacements from 2mm galvanised steel, carefully replicating the originals while giving them a new lease of life.
It's not every day you get to work on a project that combines Victorian engineering with modern renewable energy. A great example of how skilled fabrication can help preserve the past while supporting the future.
