FCIโ€™s Pivot Flood Control Gates provide convenient, rapid deployment, making them an effective solution for flash flood protection and chemical spill containment.

The precision gas lift mechanism allows the gate to be easily raised and lowered, while the single-point locking system securely holds the pivot gate in position with a simple turn of a lever.

Automated and semi-automated pivot flood gates can be activated through fire alarms, local detector systems, or controlled manually with a push button for everyday use.

โœ… Precision gas-assisted lifting for smooth opening and closing
โœ… Fast deployment with secure single-point locking
โœ… No excavation required โ€“ suitable for ground or wall mounting
โœ… Maintenance-free aluminium panels
โœ… Available in widths up to 14ft and heights up to 24โ€
โœ… Suitable for internal or external installation
โœ… Can be installed over any flat, level, impervious surface

How do you protect vital underground transit systems from flooding without altering the open, light-filled aesthetic of a modern concourse?

One of our latest projects in Gothenburg highlights exactly how architectural vision and robust flood mitigation can work hand-in-hand.

Underground subway platforms are incredibly vulnerable to surface-level floodwater, which naturally seeks out escalators, stairs, and lifts. To seal these pathways without blocking views or foot traffic, we designed and engineered an integrated system:

- Glass Floodwall Barriers/Balustrades: Installed seamlessly on three sides around four major escalator pits within the main concourse.

- Slot-In Barriers: Positioned cleanly at the top openings of the escalators, stairwells, and lifts to create a fully water-tight perimeter when needed.

This approach ensures that even during severe weather events, flood water cannot cascade into the lower transit lines, keeping commuters safe and the city's network operational.

Watch this space! We will be sharing more photos once the project is fully complete; it is going to look absolutely stunning!

Everyone is talking about the heatwave, weโ€™re thinking about what comes next.

Extended periods of hot, dry weather can create a quiet assumption that flood risk has passed, creating a false sense of security. In reality, flood risk doesnโ€™t disappear, it simply becomes less visible.

In many cases, it returns suddenly in the form of short, intense rainfall that can overwhelm systems designed for more predictable conditions. Prolonged dry weather can leave ground hardened and less permeable, meaning rainfall runs off rather than soaking in. When this happens at scale, surface water builds quickly and existing drainage systems can be rapidly overwhelmed.

The real challenge isnโ€™t just the weather itself, but how prepared we are when it changes.

At Flood Control International, we support organisations in building that readiness through flood defence systems designed for commercial, public sector, and critical infrastructure environments.

Our demountable slot-in flood barriers are designed to be fully removable when not required, keeping openings completely clear and unobstructed during normal use. When required, the system can be quickly installed to provide reliable flood protection without permanent structures. They are designed to suit client-specific openings or layouts, with options for corners, radiuses, steps and/or slopes.

Key benefits:
โœ… Tested by FM Approvals for up to 2.1m flood height
โœ… Flexibility โ€“ barrier can be designed to suit almost any layout
โœ… A wide/deep bottom seal allows the system to sit on impervious surfaces
โœ… Completely removable, leaving a totally flat ground surface
โœ… Long life โ€“ using hot-dip galvanised and aluminium components

Flood resilience isnโ€™t something we can treat as optional anymore, itโ€™s becoming a core part of how we design and deliver buildings.

As climate risks increase and regulations tighten, developers, architects, and property owners are all having to think more seriously about flood protection. But for a lot of people, defences still bring to mind bulky, industrial barriers, solutions that donโ€™t always sit well with great design.

At Flood Control International, thatโ€™s exactly what weโ€™re trying to change.

Flood protection doesnโ€™t have to be highly visible or intrusive. Done well, it can be discreet, well-integrated, and completely in tune with the architecture it protects, all without compromising on real-world performance.

From glass barriers that keep views and light uninterrupted, to fully hidden systems like the Poseidon Up Barrier that sits flush with the pavement and only appears when needed, there are now engineering solutions that fit around design rather than fight against it.

The conversation is shifting. Itโ€™s no longer just about ticking a compliance box; itโ€™s about creating spaces that are resilient from the start, without losing their aesthetic character.

๐ŸŒŠ What happens after the flood?

Flood resilience isn't just about keeping water out; it's about how quickly people, businesses, and communities can return to normal once the water recedes.

Watch how easily the Poseidon Up Barrier is lowered back into its underground housing after deployment.

Activated by the water itself, the system rises automatically when flood levels increase, requiring no manual intervention.

Once the flood threat has passed, the barrier can be lowered back to ground level, restoring full access while remaining ready for the next event.

No permanent obstruction. No complex recovery process. Just reliable flood protection when it's needed.

Most people don't think about flood protection until the weather warning arrives.

Then suddenly it's all anyone can think about.

A mad panic trying to find sandbags. Moving stock, furniture and valuables out of harm's way. Checking forecasts every hour, watching the rain get heavier and wondering if you've left it too late.

It's a situation nobody wants to be in.

The challenge with flooding isn't just the water itself, it's the lack of time. Once a warning is issued, your options become limited and the pressure starts to build.

That's why preparation matters.

Not because you expect the worst to happen, but because having a plan in place means one less thing to worry about when the weather turns.

FloodClip is a solution that's easy to store, quick to deploy and simple enough for anyone to use when it matters most.

Because flood protection shouldn't start when the rain arrives.

It should already be in place.

Installing for Long-Term Performance.

The installation stage is an important one! Itโ€™s where the design really gets put to the test on site, and getting it right is key to long-term performance.

We support projects from start to finish, from initial order and design through to on-site installation, as well as ongoing support and maintenance.

What do you see as the most critical stage in delivering a successful project?
