🚨 Domestic Fuel Theft🚨
We have recently seen a number of fuel thefts across the division and would like to pass on some tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of fuel theft:
🔒 Installing and using lockable gates and fencing around the perimeter of your home.
🌳 Plant shrubs or install fencing to hide exposed domestic heating oil tanks.
⛓️ Keeping your tank inside a security gate or cage.
📍 Consider the location of your tank. Preferably near a habitable building and away from roads.
⏰ Fitting an alarm. Remote electronic fuel level gauges will set off an audible or monitored alarm if the fuel level in the tank suddenly drops or falls below a defined level.
🔦 Install automatic movement sensor security lighting where you keep your tanks and the surrounding area.
🔒 Fitting a locking fuel cap and anti-siphoning device. These devices stop a pipe from being dipped into the fuel and the fuel being pumped out.
📷 Installing CCTV cameras. This can dissuade criminals from targeting your tank as well as catching the thief in the act.
🚫 Put up signage. Highlights the security measures you’ve installed and can help deter criminals.
🔍 Criminals may return after you’ve replaced your stolen fuel – be vigilant following a delivery.
🚗 Note suspicious vehicle registrations and report them to the Police via 101 or Contact Us.

Our divisional Prevention & Interventions team recently secured funding for audible driveway alarms, proximity alarms and signage. They are now liaising with local oil suppliers and housing officers to identify those vulnerable in our communities to be issued with these preventative devices.
