This engine had been leaking exhaust fumes into the engine room due to failed manifold seals and deteriorated gasket surfaces. The manifold was removed, cleaned, inspected, and all sealing faces were prepared before fitting new gaskets and seals throughout restoring a proper seal and eliminating the exhaust leak.

A good example of why exhaust leaks should never be ignored—apart from the loss of performance, exhaust fumes in an engine room can quickly become a serious safety issue.

Steel beams going in yesterday, and we had some company on site. 🐔🔩

Our feathered foreman was keeping a close eye and making sure everything was up to scratch. She spent the morning inspecting the work, checking our measurements, and making sure safety standards were being met. We’re still waiting on her final approval, but judging by the amount of clucking, she definitely had a few comments. 😂

We all know the cost of heating oil and fuel has rocketed, meaning it’s more important than ever to protect what you’ve got.

Fuel theft and tank damage are becoming more common, especially in rural areas — and a simple upgrade can make a big difference.

At Haywood Engineering, we can design and fabricate custom solutions to help secure your oil tank, including:
• Protective cages
• Lockable enclosures
• General tank protection and modifications

All tailored to suit your setup.

If you’re thinking about improving the security or durability of your tank, feel free to get in touch for a chat and practical advice.

🚨 Domestic Fuel Theft🚨

We have recently seen a number of fuel thefts across the division and would like to pass on some tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of fuel theft:

🔒 Installing and using lockable gates and fencing around the perimeter of your home.
🌳 Plant shrubs or install fencing to hide exposed domestic heating oil tanks.
⛓️ Keeping your tank inside a security gate or cage.
📍 Consider the location of your tank. Preferably near a habitable building and away from roads.
⏰ Fitting an alarm. Remote electronic fuel level gauges will set off an audible or monitored alarm if the fuel level in the tank suddenly drops or falls below a defined level.
🔦 Install automatic movement sensor security lighting where you keep your tanks and the surrounding area.
🔒 Fitting a locking fuel cap and anti-siphoning device. These devices stop a pipe from being dipped into the fuel and the fuel being pumped out.
📷 Installing CCTV cameras. This can dissuade criminals from targeting your tank as well as catching the thief in the act.
🚫 Put up signage. Highlights the security measures you’ve installed and can help deter criminals.
🔍 Criminals may return after you’ve replaced your stolen fuel – be vigilant following a delivery.
🚗 Note suspicious vehicle registrations and report them to the Police via 101 or Contact Us.

Our divisional Prevention & Interventions team recently secured funding for audible driveway alarms, proximity alarms and signage. They are now liaising with local oil suppliers and housing officers to identify those vulnerable in our communities to be issued with these preventative devices.

🔵🔵Exciting project kicking off 🔵🔵

We’ve just finished fabricating the chassis for an upcoming shepherd’s hut build—fully custom and built from the ground up here in the Highlands.

This one’s a little different for us, as it’s part of a wider project we’re collaborating on with Knots & ore The hut itself will carry their signature style, but it all starts with a solid foundation—and that’s where we come in.

It’s been a great one to work on and we’re looking forward to seeing it take shape as the build progresses.

If you want to follow the journey from chassis to finished hut, make sure to keep an eye on both pages—there’s plenty more to come.
