Another donation was made in our local area today by the Community Connections Committee this week!

Darren Castaldi, General Manager of the Hornbill family, made another donation delivery this week to Ynysfach Primary School, right here in Resolven. The Big Bocs Bwyd project was set up by the staff and pupils at Ynysfach Primary School in May 2022, and has since then it has been tackling food waste in the local community as well as supporting families who may be struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. This wonderful resource is where you can go and get grocery items, sanitary items, baby items and more, purely on a pay as you can afford basis. This shop is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and is run solely by volunteers, staff and pupils of the school, and on donations from local businesses to stock the shelves.

We are delighted to be able to contribute to this amazing cause, with the donation of four benches, allowing the shop to expand its offering into coffee mornings. Coffee mornings bring in more of the local community to really show the benefits of having this resource. Hornbill also donated 35 hi vis vests for the pupils and staff, for when they are working in the shop, or when they are harvesting their own locally grown produce which is then sold in the shop.

If you would like to find out more about the Big Bocs Bwyd project and the amazing work being done by Ynysfach Primary School, please contact Karen Thomas, Acting Head Teacher at Ynysfach Primary School.

What better way to celebrate World Social Media Day than by posting on social media?

Social media has come a long way since its beginnings in the 1990s. We've used it to connect with family and friends, share our lives, and stay up to date on world news. In recent years, we've seen a surge in the number of social media platforms, from Facebook and TikTok to Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. And who knows what the future holds?

In the 2010s, we saw a shift in the content being shared on social media. Businesses began using these platforms to connect with customers, employees, and other businesses. They shared information about their products and services, but they also used social media to promote their corporate and social responsibility initiatives, environmental sustainability, and charitable work.

We appreciate you joining us on LinkedIn and engaging with us. Hornbill will continue to post relevant content that we hope is of interest and benefit to you.

Happy International Women in Engineering Day!

Today, we celebrate the achievements of women in engineering. Women have made significant contributions to the field of engineering, and their work is essential to our modern world.

Meet Naomi Gethings, one of the many talented women working at Hornbill. Naomi joined the team in early 2021 as our High Voltage Administrator. Hornbill recognised her talent for organisation, and she was quickly promoted her to Training Administrator in late 2022, a role in which she excels. Naomi is responsible for ensuring that all our staff's professional qualifications remain up to date. Naomi organizes all the training agreements, claims training bursaries, reports all training to Hornbill management and associated training facilities, assists in award applications, and is a key member of Hornbill’s Training Committee.

As a globally based engineering company, we rely heavily on key personnel such as Naomi. Naomi is a valued member of our team, who’s excellent work ethic and people skills are greatly appreciated by both Hornbill and our clients. At Hornbill , we are committed to creating a workplace that is supportive of equality and diversity.

A diverse workforce brings different perspectives and experiences to the table, which can lead to better decision-making and innovation. Such is the importance of these factors to Hornbill, diversity plays a central role in all our recruitment processes.

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of women in engineering. Thank you, Naomi, and all the other women who work with Hornbill, for your hard work and dedication.

Our Community Connections Committee made their first delivery of donations today, Darren Castaldi, our General Operations Manager, took down a basket of sensory items to Building Blocks here in Resolven. Building Blocks is a locally run charity a stone’s throw away from our Resolven Head Office. Founded in 2001, they were awarded charitable status in 2003 and have been doing amazing work with families, children, and young people ever since.

“We are a registered Charity based in the Neath Valley providing family support services for families, children and young people who are at a disadvantage. We do this by providing a number of services such as family advice and support, workshops and training in parenting and other life skills, youth forum training young people on their rights along with a range of other community-based services. We also offer high quality childcare for children 0-12.”

The Hornbill family is proud to be supporting a local charity that has such a large impact on their local community. The donation of sensory equipment will enable Building Blocks to assist children who have sensory processing disorders. The equipment calms and relaxes children helping them to concentrate during activities and relax during sessions.

We wish to thank the Utilities Week Live organizers for a very thought-provoking and insightful event. Running both yesterday and today at the N.E.C Birmingham, the event had industry leaders and innovators coming together from across the globe to collaborate on a number of topics, and challenges that the Utilities field currently faces.

With Hornbill’s commitment to becoming a Net Zero company, the talks on how this can be achieved gave us inspiration to continue to do our utmost in this area. With our SHEQ Manager, Darren Castaldi in attendance, we will be looking at some of the solutions presented to us, and how we can implement these to have a positive impact on our environmental efforts moving forward.

Happy Earth Day! Lets take a moment to honour the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect the Earth’s natural resources. Hornbill Engineering Ltd are tackling the global climate crisis and are taking our commitment to environmental sustainability to heart.
As part of our journey to becoming Net Zero, we have pledged to having all staff trained on Environmental Awareness by the end of 2023. We believe the first step in any journey to becoming environmentally sustainable is education, being made aware of all the facts so that everyone can play their part in protecting the planet.
In addition to staff training, we have invested in various electrical vehicles, which now make up 5% of our fleet. Just one electric vehicle on the road can reduce 1.5million grams of CO2 over it’s lifetime, helping to reduce global pollution. Electric vehicles are also quieter than typical diesel or petrol run vehicles, reducing noise pollution and benefiting wildlife.

Our world requires an impactful change, and we are embracing that change. More than 1 billion people are participating in Earth Day activities across the world, including Hornbill Engineering Ltd, how will you get involved?
