ComFlor 46 is the shallower profile in the composite decking range, and that shallow depth is exactly what makes it useful.

A reduced slab depth keeps the overall floor build-up down, which can be a real advantage where floor to floor heights are tight or where the design is working hard to control structural depth. It's a practical, efficient option for the right project.

Openings and apertures are a normal part of any composite slab. The question is whether they've been planned properly, or just left for site to figure out.

There are two ways to form them: boxing out before the concrete is poured, or core drilling after the slab has gained at least 75% of its strength. Decking should never be cut before that point. 🚫

A few simple rules make all the difference: 👇

🔹 Small openings (up to 300mm): usually no extra reinforcement needed
🔹 Medium openings (300mm to 700mm): typically need additional reinforcement in each orthogonal direction
🔹 Large openings (greater than 700mm): must be trimmed with permanent steelwork connected back to the primary supports, and that trimming steel needs to be installed before the decking

Spacing matters too. Openings closer than 1.5W of the larger opening start behaving as one combined opening. The distance between an opening and an unsupported edge should be at least the opening's own width. And no more than a quarter of any bay or deck span should be removed by openings. 📏

Get this right early and the slab design stays efficient. Get it wrong and you're adding steel later.

Most people don't realise how much something as simple as deck bearing impacts a deck install. 🤔

If decking sheets don't have enough clear projection past the toe of the steel beam, they physically won't sit correctly. The result? Sheets end up strapped in place. It works, but it's not the ideal detail, and it slows the job down.As a general rule of thumb:

🔹 50mm bearing on steel
🔹 75mm bearing on block, ICF, masonry or structural timber

That clear projection gives the sheets proper bearing and leaves enough room to fix them down properly with a shot fired gun. No strapping. No workarounds. A cleaner, faster install. ✅

This is exactly the kind of detail that should always be designed in from the start, not solved on site under pressure.
